Hi everyone, well this world wide pandemic has got me thinking about emergency vehicles. I've got a few scale period firetrucks, but I didn't have a an ambulance until now. Sylvan Models produced this one awhile ago, finally got around to building mine.

This kit's decals include the word Ambulance for both sides of this vehicle, and for the back doors. I ended up not using them, because they fell apart(A 911 decaling moment) on me in the process of trying to add them on. You can tell it's an ambulance without it having the word ambulance written on it. I'm certain that Clare at Sylvan would replace these decals for me, if I wanted them.

Greg,
This is another Awesome Build from Shinnie Shops! The <ahem> "Meat Wagon," as this sort of vehicle was known back then. Load-and-Go was the protocol, and they did what they could. Very well done!
I should go dig out mine, but.... [:-boggled]

That’s a nice model. I need one for my ambulance collection.

The truck based rigs have an upgraded monicker these days “Bone-box” at my old department. They ride like lumber wagons. |

Nice looking vehicle Greg. I wouldn't worry too much about the "Ambulance" decals, as looking on line most from that period didn't actually have that wording on them. Just a red cross. (I stand to be corrected).
So by default yours is more prototypical.

Greg, have you considered moving the wheels out a bit? They look like they're set to far in. |

Great looking ambo. You do a fine job with their kits. I've always found their vehicles troublesome to clean up, but you make it look simple and easy to turnout a great looking ride! |

Thanks very much guys for your posts & interest in this!
Pete, I'm glad they don't refer to them as meat wagons anymore.
Karl, I hope your able to find one, and build it for your ambulance collection.
Robert, I like your thinking regarding the red cross only being used on these early ambulances.
Thanks! George & Bruce.
Rich, I think it should have at least came with a patient laying on a stretcher on the inside.
Frank, the wheels are glued on with CA, so I don't think I want to try and pull them off again.
Louis, these vehicles can be a bit of a challenge to build. The biggest problem I had was trying to fit the front windshield into place, without traces of glue messing up the acetate.
Mike, I certainly try, it doesn't always end up like it should.
Thanks again guys! Greg |

Greg, that's where Pacer Formula 560 Canopy Glue comes in handy. No matter how much glue happens to get on the acetate, it dries absolutely clear with no trace of the glue showing. It was designed for gluing model aircraft canopies with no trace of the glue let seen. Great stuff. I also use it for making the look of glass in structure window frames, as seen in the shed to the left. Give it a try. Below is a picture of a truck that I just took a toothpick, dipped it into the white colored Canopy glue and kept working around the window opening until it caused a sheet of the glue across the opening, then pulled away the toothpick and let the glue dry to this clear film.

Ditto Lou’s idea. I have done that. Also have used Gallery Glass clear in both roles. |

Thanks! Chuck.
Louis & Karl, thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try on the next one. When I can finally go to a open hobby shop once again, to purchase some of this Pacer Formula 560 Canopy glue.

"...these vehicles can be a bit of a challenge to build." Greg Yes they can, yet you make it look so deceptively simple. Nice, clean work. Looks great. |
