I built two more flatcars;




These cars use "California" trucks. These are Bitter Creek t-29s (they are not on their Web page. You have to Email them and request them).


and here are the four cars.



These cars need their brake staffs and wheels before painting. I'm not happy with what was provided in the kit for a staff support so I'm doing something else.

I also repaired the boxcar you see in the background.

The cars are looking good! Jeff updated his website last week and all of the trucks are on there now. He did all of the trucks that are appropriate for these flatcars, since there were a lot of replacements over the years. During the construction period (1865-70) they used the Kimball design (Bitter Creek T-30).

Thank you Josh. I appreciate the news too. Better late than never. I'm not complaining at all. Better to have product available then product on the web page not ready yet. I'm so happy we have Jeff Stone willing to provide these products.

Mike and Frank, Thank you, I find your comments encouraging.

Yours too Andre and welcome back to "civilization".

I did more work on my flatcars. Simply put, I didn't like what the kit provided for the Brake Staff Support so I drew and printed my own. This is the 2nd drawing;



I drew the first drawing to scale. The result were pieces that were just too fragile. So I went back and beefed up the design. The print looked like this;

and here they are on the cars;

and here's a finished Brake staff ready for paint;

They will fit nicely with my 24' Kimbal flats.

Yes, it's a good time to be a modeler. When I started modeling the 1880's there was very little available. Almost everything had to be scratch built. For example for trucks we had to take a narrow gauge side frames and add our own fabricated beams. Today between BTS, Bitter Creek, Rio Grande Models and the independents like Crown Point Models we have an abundance of fine kits. When it comes to passenger kits there are a few holes to be filled but I have what I need. For sure, what I'm lacking I will be able to print.
With this abundance comes another problem. the need to keep to your vision. My original vision was for a "island"(that is one without a interchange to another railroad) railroad but with the availability of a Pullman car and these other new products I decided I need to interchange to justify Pullman service. So I added staging. Ryan's discussions in his treads have me wondering if I should go back to mixed train daily schedule.

Mixed trains. Spruce up one of CB&WVRR coaches as your own captive version of a Pullman. :)
