Hi all,
Not to be picky or anything, BUT I was just wondering if anyone noticed the error that Athearn made with the Low-nose headlight on the NS heritage units. All of the AC4400s on the Athearn site are like that!

http://www.athearn.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=AC4400+RTR&CatID=THLD

Doesn't the real heritage units have the headlight on the cab??

Am I wrong?

Thanks,

Cody

May I ask what the difference is between an ES44AC and an AC4400?

I'm just being curious.[:-spin]

Thanks,

Cody

I'm not an expert but the ES44AC's meet the higher current emission standards which is something you can't see. Other than that there are some minor differences in the radiator, "wings;" they are larger on the ES's and there are some differences in the grills. But as much as they may look alike they are not the same locomotive.

Cody,All of NS's GEs has cab mounted headlights.

Athearn is just using what they have on hand instead of tooling a ES44AC.

I suspect if they did a ES44AC with road specific details it would be a Genesis product.

From Athearn, they have the old Tower 55 tooling. The tooling is for the early Gevos, and differs a lot more from the new gevos (the NS heritage units) then the new and old SD70ACe's do. They are retooling the SD70ACe for the heritage units. They said that they are putting them out now, so people have the heritage GE's, instead of waiting a year or more to retool a whole new GEVO. With that said, Intermountain has stated they are retooling their GEVO's for the Heritage units. I only want the CNJ, LV, and RDG so I can get two out of the three now, and I might make the LV my first piece of brass for overland.

I was looking at getting the PRR, CR, NYC(maybe. . . . .), and the PC. I'll probably get the PC for now.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to convert the AC4400 low nose headlight to a light above the cab?
Thanks,

Cody

Personally, I would hold out for the Intermountain locos that are actually GEVO models. Since I model western railroading, I am not sure if any of the NS heritage locos are in my future.

Surely a NS heritage unit would make it to the west. Imagine they leased it out to the RR you are modelling. [:-angel]

I've seen some Union Pacific units at the Horseshoe curve a few times. . . .

Respectfully,

Cody

Larry,
the Club solution is almost cheating !!
Cody,
NS wont be "Leasing" out any of the Heritage units for the forseeable future.
but they could end up out west on run thrus with BNSF,U.P.,or even CN/KCS.
havnt seen any on the R&D Line thru here yet,but this is a Secondiary Line, not a Mainline.
would sure like to see the Erie,DL&W,and CNJ units someday before they get crudded up.

Hey, NS units are regular visitors to an Iowa regional (IAIS) on unit grain trains that travel IAIS rails from Peoria to Des Moines using haulage rights. No heritage units yet on those trains yet, but at least two of them already headed west on BNSF across Iowa a few weeks ago, and I believe those made it clear out to Denver (and maybe beyond?) before coming back east.
