Hello All, I thought to make a how-to on my kitbashing of a Roundhouse Overland coach for my 1893 railroad but summertime has not allowed much modeling so I'm happy that I managed to finish it before going back to work. I thought to share the finished car and please forgive my bad photos. A new better camera is in the pipeline.
The car is a modified Roundhouse/MDC HO coach with Bitter creek trucks and my own 3D printed brake beam assemblies. The scrollwork and lining is made with decals, the artwork courtesy the modeler John Ott.
I made some slight weathering on the car but it did not come out very well on the photos.
Happy modeling, Håkan

A very nice looking car, Håkan. The weathering on the second picture shows up and it's well done.

Forgive your bad photo's! What are you talking about Håkan, these pics look really good to me. As does this beautiful coach too! 3D printed brake beam assemblies, that's something new to me. You just need some, 3D printed period dressed passengers to go along for the ride.

Thank you for the kind words George and Greg! George, when making the brake rigging I had a lot of help from your great Labelle coach build.
What I don't like about my photos is that they have very little depth of field. I use a small compact camera and we (me and my wife) are discussing, ok well I'm negotiating to buy a new system camera on which the aperture opening can be controlled.

| Beautiful work. If you hadn't told us it was a roundhouse kit I certainly wouldn't have guessed it. |

Thank you Glen for the praise! I have been searching for the old Roundhouse Overland kits on Ebay but they are getting scarce. I used one of the new Athearn/Roundhouse Overland cars which comes assembled. This became a problem as the windows was glued from the inside and was hard to remove without damaging the area around the windows. Try to find the old kits if you want to do something similar as I did to my car.

Lovely bit of modelling there, you would never be able to guess they came from Roundhouse/MDC coaches.
Cheers,

Fabulously good looking coach. I like what you did with the roof. How did you do that?

Many thanks Bob! Here is a description on how I made the roof. The roof seams I cut or carved with a small sharpened screwdriver. The underside of the roof ends comes from factory flat so I rounded them by cutting with a knife and some sanding. On the clerestory I cheated. The sides are made of printed paper. I just could not figure it out how to make the glass window with the screen on the outside. Hope it looks somewhat convincing. On the body I cut out the old letterboard which did not extend beyond the ends and made a new one from styrene which is glued to the roof. So the body is one assembly and the rood with letterboard another. One can see below the look of the clerestory I was after:
