Wrapped up the Meredith Drive grade crossing on my IAIS Grimes Line layout.

I tried several different techniques on the photo backdrop, including mounting up the full photo and blend it in with paint and joint compound. After 5 attempts and little success I ended up trimming out to the tree line and mounting it to the backdrop. Much better results.

My "success" with Meredith Drive gave me the confidence to move ahead with the rather complex backdrop at the NW 100th Street & Douglas Avenue intersection. The Grimes Line passes through the Southwest quadrant of the intersection and both roadways are clearly visible from each other. After giving up on making everything work from every angle, I worked up a usable solution and mounted it up. Not perfect but highly effective.

8 inches, which is the standard width for 90% of my layout. Here's the layout plan.

Only the two peninsulas are wider at 16 inches. There's no reason to have deeper scenes on a modern linear layout design.

| Your modeling is truly inspiring. I really like what you've accomplished on those road crossings and in only 8 inches. Impressive! When we go back out to Des Moines from Ohio to her sister and brother-in-laws I may have to check those crossings out. Great job! |

Nice work Jim we need more pictures I have an excuse I am old and decrepit. We need the "yutes" if we have any to get those cameras busy. I am relying on my archives to post. Here is a photo of my friend John Taylor's Old Colony and Ohio Alcos in the home road sheme. They were painted by John's son also John. Keep up the good work everyone

Thanks Shannon,
The track plan was originally drawn in XTRKCAD. I've been using that software package for several years. I probably went thru 25 revisions to get the plan to this level.
XTRKCAD allows you to export plans as a bitmap file. I took that file into Photoshop, cleaned it up and added the labels and coloring.

Tom Johnson's fine work has finally inspired me to weather a freight car. This is my first one. It's a mess, though the mess may or may not be prototypical.
Enjoy!

These are some pics from the Strongsville Ohio Club Layout.

One of my favorite engines a PRR N1s 2-10-2 hauling a coal drag!

I finished up another Erie Western covered hopper last week. This one is actually lettered for INRAIL (INRC) and not the older L&IN. I had a lot of fun with this one. Thanks for looking.

That's a great job of weathering. Do you use oils or waterbased gouache? |

Wonderful work James and Tom. Tom, of all the covered hoppers you've shared with us, that one's my favorite. I've got plans for a very similar patch job for an IAIS ex-EW covered hopper.
RI652, that's a nice job of weathering for your first attempt. Added cut levers too?
