Hers's a few more...

Its hard to imagine and understand HOW BIG this facility is, it would hold 9 K class Blimps. There were 17 built around the edges of the US. The other one here burnt down. That is ALL wood truss, and individual wood planks. the second one was built in 29 days. The Museum only uses about half of the hanger.

That blimp hanger reminds me of the one in Lakehurst, NJ.
Actually I'm not even sure if that one still exists.

Thanks for the pictures Les and I'll keep checking back to see if there are more.

Marty,
Yeah the cut the wood in Portland and on the site, all the timber is Oregon and Washington. the arcs were made on the ground then raised into position, with the larger arc connecting the 2 sides being done by 2 cranes. I suspect the vertical arcs were made in a jig/fixture. Its most interesting.

Too bad for that fence.
Who knows what RR gems you might have found.
That old moldy steamer looks interesting.
Know what it is?

Nice collection there Les, and like the others, would be keen to see plenty more. That is one very impressive hanger, both in size and construction. And it looks like a moldy Heisler hanging around in the background. As for the shay "kit", a bit sad, but still cool to see.

Cheers,
Dan Pickard

All,
thanks for stopping by, and I appreciate the comments. Yeah its a Heisler with cabbage stack, and indeed it looks green, although its probably mold. Yes sad that the other shay is no more there.
All of the planes fly that are indeed fly. Next batch will be shots of the RR and some sights from that.

Too bad you couldn't get closer to the Heisler. It's still going to be a while before we see the new one from Bachmann.

Nice pics. I am a WWII plane fan also.
