As some of you can see, I am all over the map with scales/gauges. I am even in the process of building an HO standard gauge layout!
Anyway, here is a project that I'm working on. I widened the gauge to On3 and added the Wiseman coupler knuckles so the little loco can pull On3 stuff. I removed the siderods and added friction bearing journals.
I just can't decide how far I want to go with this.

Nicely done Chuck, I've often wondered if this can be done. Could you have kept the side-rods if you wanted to?

Hey Chuck, Nice re-gauge I have some on3 track and a spare Davenport so I may have to give this a try on day. I already have a Bachmann porter that was re-gauged to ON3 and some cars. Maybe a Micro is in order. Larry |

Thanks guys!
Cody - I popped off a couple of the bearing journals that I installed and tried the side rods...they work just great. In fact, I think I like them more than the journals, so I may end up reusing them.
I have something in mind for this and I hope to get started tomorrow and get more pics posted then. |

OK...this is how it looks now. I disassembled the loco and cut and filed everything off above the deck. I even filed off the non skid surface so the deck would be as smooth as possible. After this, I applied the Plastruct stuff...

Then, the cutout was made in the middle for the motor and everything was mounted for a trial run...

The body shell had a few doors removed on each side so I can build a motor to fit. I love little critters that have their engine exposed...that was the purpose of turning the motor to fit in the cab, so I have a ton of room to build something neat.
Hmmm, perhaps a V8 with a blower... |

| I wish you luck my Davenport lasted about i hour then the gears cracked. I've been meaning to ask if NWSL or somebody makes a replacement metal gear set fot it. That said your build is coming along nicely. |

I did get 2 sets of axles from Bachmann so I have a few extras with good gears just in case. |

Chuck, why stop at a blower? Can I recommend a 'famous critter' to help trick out your nice critter?

That is a great idea, but surely an early, normally aspirated diesel or petrol engine would be most appropriate.
Does the electric motor intrude much into the cab? |
Built a waterfront HO layout in Ireland http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22161 but now making a start in On30 in Australia |

HA, Verne! That critter would require too much upkeep!
Neil, yes an early gasoline engine it will be. I'll post a few pics in a day or so...I did get started back on it.

My order came in today that contained the little engine and the Banta cab. The engine is a LifeLike HO model that required a lot of hollowing out using my Dremel. I think it fits and looks pretty good...

This photo also shows how much the motor fits into the cab. Using the Banta cab, this will not be noticeable...

After a few hours of work, it now looks like this-

It'll be ready for paint in a day or two... |

Almost finished! Still need to do a little rust highlighting and a few other odds and ends.
