Here's a short, silent newsreel from 1927, which shows the "booming" new town of Gilbert, NV
and some of the mining operations. There are no trains but it's still pretty interesting look at a
period which many of us model. These scenes are especially interesting to me because I've been to the
site of this former town a couple times on my trips, most recently in 2010.

Here are my pics of the present-day Gilbert townsite and mine ruins:

Thanks for that Ray.
I wonder what those guys would think of us building models, trying to replicate towns and mines where they lived and worked?
Probably would think that we were out in the sun too long.

cool footage and link, spent about an hour at that site-feel bad for the people who invested all of their money in real estate in Gilbert, because they bought when the market was inflated and lost their tails when the market tanked. Good thing that kind of stuff doesnt happen nowadays.

Yep, probably a lot of mine speculators and investors lots their shirts too.

I just read a fascinating book called, "Leadfield: Anatomy of the Rise and Fall of a Death Valley Boomtown", by Kenneth Lengner and Danny Ray Thomas. It details all the wheeling, dealing, and outright fraud that created a boomtown that never even had any ore. If you're interested the history of Western mining towns, I highly recommend it.

If there's no ore to tram, there's still suckers to scam!!!

Great newsreel, I love the characters shown...nice to think at least a few of them made some buck$ through real strikes before the bottom fell out!
