Troels
If I remember correctly, this is the 4th magnificent ship that you scratch built for the layout. My two absolute favourites are the Tug and the big rusty old Cargo ship, Oden(what a great name).
This is what you have to look forward to when you get old.
I may have already asked this question, When you're applying the paper cladding to the hull what glue do you use? You make a foam plug to to the basic shape and then apply the watercolour paper, correct?
I believe during my visit you mention how you did the rivets in the steel plating. Could you remind me how it was done? If I remember correctly it was one of those "AH HAH!" moments.
Getting old sucks!

Hi Troels:

Very nice scene. Also like the new diner you are working on.

Ralph, I apply the paper with plain carpenter's white/yellow glue over the spackled/sanded hull plug (v-cut and spackle the complex areas).. For the steel plating on Oden I used pieces of masking tape on top of the initial paper hull, rolling the rivets onto two edges (rear and down facing) with a sewing pounce wheel (Prym) on the glue side. Began the plating from the waterline aft working towards the bow (overlapping), then next overlapping row above that, also aft to bow etc... More difficult to describe than to do :-)

I have had a medium sized clean-up in the shed... visitors keep coming by, and I want the layout to present itself at its best Graffen (Michael Graff) is coming tomorrow.... good to meet all these nice modelers!

Got time to finish a figure though... "Picasso" on the paint float, ready for some serious black varnish action.

I like that! Looks like he's ready to conduct an orchestra with his paint brush.

Thank you, sir! I hope to visit Anders M. one day ... and he said you're not terribly far away. Now, maybe I can go paint a few boat hulls to make travel money.

I have roughly one hour to Troels, and one to Anders......

I have made a load of trees, some of which have been planted in the area between the Vulcan and the back of the theater, hiding the road dissapearing into the backdrop... I also planted five utility poles in addition to the telegraph poles. Some minor corrections and additions finished the landscape part of Crabapple Cove for now...

Troels, I don't have to tell you that I think yours is one of the most outstanding model
railroads anywhere. I would like to suggest a detail that I find missing.

I was born and grew up along the Massachusets coast in the 1930's and 40's so my life
experience would not be much different from what you are modeling.
EVERY small town that I can remember had the American flag flying somewhere near the center
of town. In addition, along the coast they would usually also be flying a sea condition or
storm flag. The ones I liked usually looked like a small ship's mast with the national flag
flying at the peak and the storm flag flying either at the tip of a gaff, or spreader bar.
Or sometimes the storm flag had it's own flagpole.

You have not given us an actual date but I would assume that the national flag would be
the 48 star version.

Cheers,
Bob

Beautiful Troels! Especially like the way the trees is planted along the road. I think it gives the area a very lived in and cultivated look.
