Hello all,
I'm trying to find what connectors the model train industry uses for their DCC boards? It seems that all of them use the same size. I have a few sound boards that have the male side, but i don't want to cut them off to solder the wires, I'd rather get the connectors. Any help on finding who i can get these from would be greatly appreciated! |

I get my elec. connectors, and most train elec supplies from http://www.digikey.com/ But you need to now if you want the JST 9 pin connector or the NMRA 8 pin connectors our buy them in strips and cut what you need. The NMRA 8 pin works as a male or female connector. You can also get an NMRA 8 pin kit.

After reading this again I see you said there are male pins showing, then are you talking about the JST type connectors? Like picture posted? If you could post a picture of what you are looking for, we can narrow this mystery down to a good answer.

If so, then the plugs / connectors in question are made by JST. They are considered their ‘ZR’ connector (http://www.jst-mfg.com/product/detail_e.php?series=290). They also have a PDF on this link to see their data sheet. |

Ok Mike, I knew I could find it. (with alot of help from my Son "LocoLouie") The NMRA 8-pin connectors I use are cut from a long strip shown in my prior post.
ED9772-ND http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/327939-conn-recept-72pos-dual-row-lopro-803-93-072-10-002000.html
This comes in a long 2 row 'stick' with 72 positions. This gives you nine 8 pin headers. The way I cut them was to use a newer pair of Xuron cutters (the bigger ones used for rail) and they would 'snap' clean. Or, a good sharp razor saw will work. I hope this answers your question.
