Truely a great loss to our past and history education. Just maybe something good can happen yet.

Bill, As much as I'd like to respond, I can't, because some members are overly sensitive to anything political. So I guess, "whatever floats your boat".

That is indeed sad to hear, it was on my bucket list and I was hopping to go next year.
Maybe something good will happen and they will find a way to continue operations.

A tragic loss to the history of Pennsylvania and the heritage of the United States. Let us hope that a "white knight" might come to the rescue and somehow the EBT will be reborn.

Hi, this cannot be allowed to happen. Think, of what is possibly going to be lost. A unique survivor of social history and artifacts that have avoided the curse of interpretation centres and stuffing and mounting. Think back to the UK in the early 50s where Rolt and a small group of like minded folk in saved the Talyllyn Railway. It did'nt cost them much save effort and manpower and LOBBYING. Think what was achievedfrom their efforts. A growing worldwide movement to preserve and save. Think of the advantages. In Wales industry was closing yet these pioneers gave birth to a new industry-tourism that continues to bring jobs and money into what should be a very depressed area. I have never been to the US but from what I have read and seen of the EBT it seems to be in an area of some natural beauty and former industry, now an area with much lower employment prospects. Can'nt local representatives be made aware of the possible (and proven elsewhere)potential. Cannot letters be written to local and state officials to draw their attention to this sleeping gift that could return employment and growth to an area? Cannot the local community lobby to the same effect? Ever hopefull that common sense wins, Malcolm. |

| this is strange, to me. as far as i understand it, in the uk, the trust of the railway owns the land the railway is on, and only have to comply to planing regs and what not. how dose it work in the states? it reads as the state owns the land and rents it to the group?? confusing. but very sad to hear the news, i hope something can get sorted, this seems to be scary as in the last year i think ive read 3 preserved railroads closing in the states. |

Vagel is an active volunteer at the EBT - he regularly makes the drive from Pittsburgh out there to work on projects. I asked him what had happened and he said "you know as much as I do" - which it to say, nothing. Very strange. I sure hope this can be turned around somehow.

| A very sad piece of news indeed...here is hoping this treasure can be preserved, and that the different parties can negotiate through their differences. |
