Hello everybody

Here is some more information on my Articulateds. I don't claim any originality with these models, the first I saw of this idea was actually on the internet and it was an article from, I believe, the On30 annual by a guy called Dave Wingrove (if you Google On30 Logging Behemoth you will find it) Then I discovered the marvelous models by Les Davis and these two people inspired me to "have a go" as such and these are my take on this idea.

The basis of the model is the Mantua 2-6-6-2 logger and I use the chassis and the boiler from this model but strip pretty much everything else of it. I find the chassis needs some modification as it is seriously lacking in electrical pick and stalls at every opportunity. You will see from the photos that I have Tomar pickups between the engines and Grandt Line pick ups added to each engine. I also found the chassis to be too rigid and the front engine was prone to de railing so I took the coupling off from between the first and second engine, this solved the problem.

I would add my track work is not the best in the world and this may have contributed to the problems.

The tanks are simply made from styrene and the rivets are embossed with a pounce wheel, these are then glued to the boiler and whatever domes and stacks I have to hand that will look good are glued on as are any details I can lay my hands on. Incidentally I find "O" scale details to be too big and tend to use "S" scale, these look a lot better.

The cab is just styrene and simply made, this is not as difficult as it sounds and is pretty straight forward.

The control is a Soundtraxx sound decoder and lives in the cab along with a 1 inch speaker.

Here are some photos, if you want to have a go and anything isn't clear please come back and I will try to help.

Regards to all

John

John,
Well done I like your loco work, My locos don't have that problem but the loco pick up is a most excellent idea. I used Forney metal cabs, saved me a step.

John , Thank you for the info on the Articulateds, I'd love to hear more about how you built them. I also use some S scale details as well as 28 mm gaming figures, If it looks good, I use it, and there are some great figures out there in the 28mm wargames market, with more and more civilian types being made all of the time.

Nice looking layout. As mentioned before, looking forward to some how-to's on putting it all together.

Hi Teaspoon and Brownbr

Would be glad to do "how to's" if they would help, do you want them on the Articulateds or something else?

Is there anyone else out there who would like this? it will take a little while to do so the more who are interested the better to make the project worthwhile.

NeilF regarding your loco stalling problems, I know this should be an unlikely cause but this sounds very much like electrical pick up problems to me, have you checked this out? I know you shouldn't need to do this but some locos have a very limited pick ups when maufactured. I don't why the manufacturers don't just put pick ups on all wheels, it would save a lot of problems particularly if, like me, your track work is not absolutely perfect!!

Meanwhile here is another photo, this time it is a station I built a while back, its all card and paper and it appeared in a recent Modellers Annual, at least I think it was that title, certainly one from that publisher anyway.

PS

Teaspoon and Brownbr, if you would prefer a "how to" on card and paper buildings as per station and lighthouse on previous posts I could do that a bit quicker as I am halfway through a building for the harbour at the moment and I could incorporate it in that.

Those are paper??!! I think that would make a great tutorial they look fantastic.

I like your breakdown on the articulated, I've been thinking of getting one myself. You did a fine job of weathering. How did you go about that.

2 other things that grabbed me and I was curious. 1) I like your backdrop, is it painted or a photo? 2) the branches on the pines look nice and thick. what material did you use?
