| Today while I was at the Grand Ledge Victorian Days in my Civil War uniform, I ran into a gentleman whom I met last fall. He's an ex German WWII Wehrmacht soldier who hated being in Hitler's army, and in his own words (in a german accent)"After D Day invasion, I get my vish, and become prisoner of Vwar and come to Amereeeka" When I saw him, he was playing the panflute, and we talked for a bit, then asked me" How does that song go?, you know the von, ven Johnie goes marchink? so I hummed a few bars of when Johnnie goes Marching home, and he played it on his pan flute. I was so touched by this man who believes that being captured by American soldiers was one of the best things that ever happened to him, and by the fact that he remembered me. There's some Apple Strudel and coffee in the lounge. |

Well....it's back to the city this afternoon...My bachelor days are done, the boat is put up and the fishing tackle stored. It managed to rain 9 out of 13 days here....grass is green, forest is green and the new boat bilge pump works great. I did manage to catch quite a few fish, and some ended up in the freezer...;-) Moderate progress has been made on the layout, with only 3 remaining turnouts & servo's to install....Then I can finally start on some scenery, and maybe plant a few of the structures I have built during the last couple winters.....Time to pack it in..... See you all from Brooklyn....Have a good day! (Go away rain!!!!!) |

Steve, There were a lot of German POW's that were sent to Canada and never returned home after the war. I got to talk to a few of them when I was younger, one of them was even in Stalingrad. Your gentleman must be getting on in years, great that he is still out talking to folks.
Geezer have a safe trip. |

Thought I'd better touch base and assure all & sundry that I'm still alive. Modelling has gone completely out of the window, so nothing to show for my absence. Yesterday we drove down to Porthmadog and finally got 2 rides on the railway. We attended the Ffestiniog Railway Society's AGM and were treated to some interesting talks by several folks. Today, Glenda and I started to sort out my 0n30 Trains, we counted 27 examples of motive power,46 freight wagons and 12 coaches, plus numerous cars, vans and lorries. Must get a Heisler to round up the loco collection to an even number!! The reason behind this was to get rid of a display cabinet and make a start on a simple end to end layout in the space now available. Whilst we were at the AGM we were given some specially printed paperback promo booklets to distribute to doctors surgeries etc. I've kept one for myself and have earmarked one for the MD Railbaron, which should be winging its way to him tomorrow. That leaves one more up for grabs ! I'd like this to go to one of our European lounge dwellers, so the first to PM me will be the lucky recipient. Will sort through the Ffestiniog locos photos to see if there's any of noteworthy interest to you lounge lizards that will be worth posting. Right must go as SWMBO is accusing me of slacking - seems I now have to sort out the largescale rolling stock. Cheers David(UK) |

No modeling lately, I am getting ready to pack things up for the move to WV. I am also ontemmplating going back to HO and selling off my On330 stuff. My interests in more modern railroading and in the eras I remeber most. i won't forget to drop in and cheak on everyone.
Have a great day.

Good morning everyone and thanks for the coffee Andy,
Well the weekend is over and I'll finally will be able to relax, this weekend was busy with a train show in Ottawa, where I had the title of "Tech Engineer". [:-bigeyes] Was actually in charge of setting up the audio-visual equipment for the clinics and making sure the presentations went smooth. Had a couple of glitches, but were solvable. We had two clinic area giving clinics for both days, needless to say I hardly had time to enjoy the show. I told the committee yesterday that if they want me to do this again next year, they better not call me a "tech Engineer" or I'll quit on the spot, "Tech Guy" will do.
That being said, I did manage to replenish my wood supply, spend way to much money on Grandt line detail parts and get a couple of videos so all in all, a successful weekend.
John, sounds like you had a great time.
David, glad to hear all is well with you.
Mack, don't get rid of all your On30 stuff, because as you know, the fever never quite goes away.
Have a great day everyone.

Good morning all ... thanks for the coffee Andy ....
Our fund raising trail ride on the old CNR rail bed went very well. The horses behaved so no one was hurt.

Ron it is great to hear the Ottawa Train Show was a success.
Geezer must be resting up after two weeks of railroad work at the lake.
Have a great day ..... |

Good morning everyone.
Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Andy.
Mark, say it ain't so. [:-bigeyes] The point of this hobby is to have fun and if going back to HO does that then by all means go for it. Please, just don't be a stranger here, you're still one of the gang.
David, good to hear from you and that all is well.
Ron, congrats on a successful show.
Tom, congrats on a successful fund raiser.
Hope everyone has or had a great day. |

Morning All, thanks for the coffee Andy.
Ron, I am not getting rid of all of it just the things I won't need for my era. Ya never know when the Dark Side will take over again.[:-batman]
I am going to work on something alot like Tom Johnson.s doing. I really like his approach to modeling and operation.
Everyone have a grwat day and I will check in often.

Good Afternoon, Not much modeling on this front, cleaning up, putting away, squaring up projects in process. I am working on a couple of buildings, one a gas station (the banta kit) and will cut but the roof overhang.
Also getting some fun trips planned. First up in June will be Goose Fest at the RGS Museum, I am flying out for the weekend to ride on all the beasts. Then July I will be in Portland Oregon, I have a couple of days to use at my discretion so will be looking for something to do. Any train events going on that is doable in a day? easy drive time, week of 13-21 July is when I will be there.

Good evening all! Been away from modeling again for a few days because of visitors, but tonight I got a couple of hours to work on my little ship. Good to be back in the shed! Now some catching up!
