Hello, all

While shopping Tichy Train Group, I just figured out that NBW's come in many sizes. My question would be what size would be on an end sill for truss rods? There are some pre-heavy weights on my list of projects. What would be appropriate for these coaches? 6" inch nuts? 4.5 inch? How about for 26'-30' freight cars?

Bobby,

Tichy makes Truss Rod End which have 6" washers. (Part# 8034)

I've also used their #8035 which is a 6" washer with a 3" sq. bolt.

More often than not, with my narrow gauge stuff I use Grandt Line #5096 6" square washer with 2.5" nut. Tichy might have a similar one.

Bobby,
If you go to the "Data Sheet" links for the NBW's on the page linked below you will find a lot of information as to how the NBW's scales out for different scales and other useful info.

http://www.blackbearcc.com/scenery_nbw.htm

Black Bear Construction Co. is a good place to do business with anyone is interested. I've had great success with all of their products and they ship in a very timely manner. I also purchase all of my NBW's in bulk from them due to the cost savings.

--DISCLAMER-- I have no affiliation with Black Bear Construction Co. other then being a happy customer.

I can't agree more with KP's comments on Black Bear. I've ordered from him in N and On30. Great place to do business. I was actually crazy enough to use NBW on 2 N scale trestles. Went through over 3,000. The only thing he didn't have that I wanted was square washers. Ordered those directly from Tichy. good experience there also.

Many thanks. My order has been placed. I will look into Black Bear. Always good to get a reference for the Little Guy. Mostly, my orders go through Central Coast Trains. The owner has been super cool about things and only charges the postage for shipping. I say pretty loyal to her, but she also has sent me elsewhere to get stuff I ask for.

I'll keep the Black Bear ref. into my books too. It's always good to have one more supplier for this kind of detail parts.

I found the tank car build here:

I also concur that Black Bear is great. I have ordered some trestle kits from him. Good prices, items well packaged and with very good instructions.
