I have three "Older" Atlas GP-7,s with decoders. I have a very hard time keeping them running smoothly, and keeping the wheels clean, even after the track has been cleaned. I remember hearing about changing the wheels sets on these. If that is true, what new wheel sets should I be using? NWSL? Thanks Dave |

You also posted the same question in the dcc section I responded to that post the same day with some follow up questions.

No answers are a big reason when posting in many threads, as Simon pointed out. And yes to your question. Changing the wheels to NWSL is a great up-grade for the Athearn I know for sure. So I would think the older Atlas locomotives suffered from the same problem. Once you go to DCC decoders, the wheels do make a big difference once changed. And as far as the online viewer numbers go, don't let that get you down. I post how-to's from time to time and get thousands of views, and only a handfull of comment posts. AND, thats keeping it simple in one thread. Go figure! |

I don't understand why you'd want to replace the wheels in an older Atlas GP7. That should be a Kato drive and Kato is the best in terms of running quality and their wheels are also some of the best. They are not even close to Athearn. Even if it's the Chinese version, the wheels are still some of the best out there.
