The mill boss gathered us all together at the end of shift today and announced that the Gauley mill would be running the last of the logs from the pond this week. He said they are shutting down the G&PC as well. There was a tear in his eye as he explained what was going to happen to us relatively soon.
Seems the "old man" T.P. Sullivan has decided to head to Maine and start working the last stands of good saw logs in that state. He plans on leaving town in a couple of weeks and has asked me to see about disposal of some of the equipment we've been earning our living on over the past 8 years.
I'm hoping some "big bucks" fella from NYC or someplace will step in and buy out the entire line, sawmill and coal and coke operation. But if not, he plans on selling off sections of the operation to interested parties.
I'm supposed to post a listing of equipment, structures and other assets by the end of the week in the swap forum, but I wanted you guys to hear it from me first, before "the rumors start flying". Mr. Sullivan assured me he has all your best interests at heart and that you have given alot to build "the Gauley River line" and make it a prosperous narrow gauge railway.
Best wishes to you and your families going forward...and Mr. Sullivan said there would be something extra in each of your pay envelopes on payday to carry you over till something good comes up.

OK guys, here's the skinny....I've take a job with my brother in Boothbay Harbor....should be fun, and something I'll enjoy doing. My executive career is ending and my "I've always wanted to work with my hands" is beginning. Let's hope I develop calluses real quick!
I'd love to have the Gauley River find a good home, in total or in parts....the layout is 12x17 and is built in sections and can be easily moved. The sections are 24-30" wide and between 8-10 feet long. I've posted a lot of pics over the years so if you are interested in anything please let me know.
I'll publish a list of items that I'm letting go later this week. (After that, I'll put the stuff on ebay). I'm planing to do an On30 Maine railroad along the lines of the WW&F.

Now it's time for me to sign off and hit the hay....hopefully with dreams of little forneys running through me head! sully

Tom, welcome to the Maine narrow gauge modelers club ;-) I fully understand your change of lifestyle and modeling, and hope your move goes smoothly.

I wish I had have had the foresight to build in modules like you did... have no idea how and what to do with the coast line when it is "finished".

Sully,

Good luck on your new gig.

It was fun operating your layout, few of us ever get to the completion point you did on your railroad. It had a lot of operating potential and was very well thought out. I hope someone can buy up the whole line and relocate it. If not lets hope at least a small portion of the RR can live on in a new location.

I will make a point of coming to visit you in Maine and buy you a lobster roll and a coffee.
I have been meaning to take my Family to that area and push on into NB, Cape Breton and PEI.

I have a hall pass in on the 23, 24 and 25th of March if you need me to fly up and help out.

Sully, good luck with the new vocation. I'll miss not having gotten down to see the railroad, but hope you can build another real soon.

Congratulations. It's sad news but I'm glad for you. I may have to come by and look at what you are getting rid of.

Tom-

A few weeks ago you were talking Florida. Now Maine. Well, see you at the NNGC in Augusta in a few years. You'll be our "inside guy" when visiting the two footers.

Good luck, and stay out of trouble. The locals in Boothbay are still talking about the last time you and your brother got together.
