Been meaning to get around to this one last tank car I had to restore and/or upgrade a bit.

It had many layers of paint on it and I was able to get a friend to grit blast it down to the brass (and bronze).

Now I need to do a little repair work, maybe some new grab irons here & there, some decent trucks, a coat of paint, and some decals.

Now I have to get some decals onto it...

Thanks!

It's kind of interesting that a little soldering repair work, a coat of primer, some black and some gloss can trasform what we affectionately call "door stops" into a passably decent looking model,

I hope to wrap this little project up in a day or 3, and temporarily turn my shop back into a functioning woodshop; got to make a few custom boxes for some steam engines,

A little creative use of some elderly Walthers decals and this car is back on the track and ready to rool........quite literally, actually. It's so heavy that it rolled right down the hill and coupled to a 0-4-0 camelback that I doubt has enough oomph to get it back up the hill,

That is really nice Martin.
I am surprised those old Walthers decals went on as nice as they did. Most of my older Walers decals are pretty much cracked and fall apart if I try using them.
Very nice job.

Great job, Martin. Did you do anything to those ole decals before applying them? I remember that there is some solution or other that helps 'rejuvenate' older decals.

That's a cute little devil.

Old decal saver is Microscale's Liquid Decal Film. Use it exactly as the instructions tell you - it will look gloppy and thick and awful. Don't panic. It will self level to a film and dry...it's great stuff. Clean the brush in isopropyl alcohol.

Craig thanks for the tip on the decal paper. Great job on the tank car.

Thanks! Nope, just used the Walthers decals "as is" after testing their integrity 1st.

They just are not the best of quality in letter resolution that one might expect in this century - the Champ set looks better than these, but Champ is no more...[:-cry]

Great looking finished tank car, Martin.

Any idea how much it weighs?
