Jeff, this will be an HO layout based around some structures I build already and several left to go. I'm including a set of dimensions of the room. I want to stay in the section that is from the door jamb to the rear window wall, could do a return out from the left window wall but DON'T want a duck under. Logging and waterfront areas are the primary interests. Want it to be a functioning RR that mills lumber and ships by a river. No grade bigger than 2% as I don't want to create something that doesn't run easily. Turn of the century to the 30's is my time frame.

OK, Pat......it's nice to see you getting started BUT......is there something wrong with your tape measure?
I just added up the dimensions along the large window wall and they don't equal the 162" number in red.
So maybe the little elfs are messing with your tape?
I'm not much on layout plans so I'll let someone else make suggestions. But when you build it, do NOT put legs in the front!
Use 2x4 braces, angled from the fascia to the wall base. Tripping over legs is just as bad as duck unders.

How wide is the room in total (87" plus a door way how wide?) How high is the Ceiling?

Where is the layout to be located (in the world - what state/province)?

Do you want a continuous run?

Is the area you want to build in 79" + 46" by 87" with a generally L shaped space?

How 'stiff' will your locos be? I'm assuming medium sized 2-8-0 as your largest motive power.

Hi Pat, I am willing to give my input and suggestions for the space. I do my design work with 3rd PlanIt and have been using the software for about 10 years now. Both Dave and John ask some valid questions that need to be answered for me as well. (Especially about the exact dimensions for the space.) Take care, Rob.

Alright Dave, I left off some very important info about the measurements they were taken from the left and right
sides to certain points. So 70+79+13 equals 162. I can see why you could get perplexed! LOL

Rob, really appreciate the offer, I'll do my best to get a drawing loaded after I go do an estimate for work.
My computer skills are only so so but after I draw it will have to scan it to post it.

Pat, I feel a bit ashamed when I read the subject and posts of this topic.
Are you still wanting to use Malcolm Furlow's ideas or have you chosen another concept as your introductory post suggests?

here's a better drawing of the room dimensions, for those that can't read my mind.DAVE!!! LOL

Working on a couple of configurations which I think might work and give me the most scenery space.

Hi Pat, thanks for the more detailed plan of your space. What's your desired minimum radius? Take care, Rob.

Rob I plan on running mostly logging engines, and a few larger ones up to an 0-8-0 I thought an 18" radius but am looking for input.

Also don't want a spaghetti bowl of track, I want functional and realistic. Hate having track for the sake of havin track. Thanks Pat

Frederic, no need to feel ashamed my friend, I know when I ask for a favor it has to be at the person's pace and time frame. The real world gets in the way of our hobby way too much but I'm trying to find more time to relax. Please input your suggestions or draw any ideas that come to you from my info and feel free to ask any questions.
I "DO" still like the Furlow influenced trackplan, as long as I have enough room for some elevation that would be great but like stated before want trouble free running as a priority.

This is the type of scenery I want to create and will accomplish it by having drop down sections and build up rather than in elevation/grades.Thinking out loud here but in the circled section was thinkin of using an "N" scale engine with an auto reverse module??

Here is a link to the layout we are talking about.

Doug I have it downloaded and tried in the past but my knowledge of trackplanning and computer skills are very lacking. This way I will get input from fellow RR's and hopefully come up with a better trackplan then I could create on my own. Please feel free to contribute any ideas, as you already know I love your layout and your input would be greatly appreciated. Pat
