Those are very "BIG," trees Bryan. But not at all unreasonable. At first it was the tips of the azalea's. I do wonder though, if the grounds keepers will begin thinking that something is eating up whole bushes. Looking very good. Keep up the excellent work.
Here's a pic of a some friends next to a log on a saw carriage in Snoqualmie, Washington. He is about six feet tall.

Excellent use of an older tender body as a water tank, I'm sure a similar thing was done in real life in Ecuador on the Guayaquil to Quito line - was this used as inspiration by chance?
Think I'm going to shamelessly do something similar with one of the spare tender bodies I have knocking about.

Yes Dan there has been a bigfoot sighting.
Thanks Dave for the perspective on that log.
Stephen, that is actually a kit I found online. I had the idea of using a tender or a tank car as my water tower and found this one.

The plaster and paint are done in the canyon corner and I am test fitting the bridges. I will come around later and finish the area off with dirt/gravel fall, groundcover, trees, etc. Right now I just wanted to get the really messy stuff done without damaging the bridges so I can install the them and move on with laying rail.

Bryan....great trees! and welcome to thehome of the hand spikers..... But, I did notice ont thing on the shot of the last picture of the turnout: that curve is kinda fierce.....I would go back and make it more "curvable" so that when the loco enters that leg of the siding, it wond jerk hard to the left when it meets that turn.....JMO.....it's your RR my friend.....I learned the hard way.... Otherwise, you are doing great.....Sasquatch.....hmmmmmm! I wunner if he will hang around when he meets my moose or Art's gorilla!!!!! ;-) |

Thanks Rick, I'm just trying to keep up the high standards of the site.
Andy, I'm pleased with the way the bridges and rock wall turned out. The area will look much better of course when it is scenicked. I've picked up a few pointers from your thread on groundcover detailing.
Geezer, I'll go back and smooth that curve out. It doesn't look as exaggerated in person. I used some 24" radius Atlas track pieces to figure all of my curves and this one is right at 24" but there is room on the ties to move the rail and take out the "corner" look. Thanks to your keen eye I found another similar spot to work on.
Squatch can stand up to any moose. I just get a kick out of putting jokes into the layout. Makes it all the more fun for me. I also have a moose that I got from McKenzie before Bill passed away. I really want to put a harness on him like on the McKenzie website and hook him up to a lumber wagon. |

I'm laying out the key structures of the main camp for the lumber company. Here is the most likely arrangement. I planned for each of these structures to be oriented to take full advantage of their best sides. This is at the end of the line so I have access and view from the front and side. The only thing I can't see as well as I want is the guy sleeping in the rigging shed. I'll move him to the other side of the room so he can be seen with the roof off.
This arrangement also allowed me to put another joke in the layout. It looks as though there is a gas station on every corner of this one horse town. There is one at Blue Sky and one at the tool shed across the tracks. I'll come up with some competing signs that are subdued.
I will transfer the track plan to the layout using turnout templates and some HO flextrack. Then I will cut out sections of homasote to fit the next 2 modules, lay rail and then install them. I will be sure to mount the Blue Sky onto pink foam and not the homasote after the warping issue with the office/warehouse.
I'm looking at planting a big tree to block the wire track on the wall. This was left over from the last layout and was hidden by the backdrop. Since I painted this one directly on the wall it has been bothering me. I debated moving it but that had it's own set of problems so I went with the camouflage option.
The open spaces here will be filled in with smaller structures to give a busy camp look like the one Runner did.

| A fine set of bridges above, Bryan. I'm looking forward to see you build your camp. I'm sure it will be very interesting to follow. |

G'day Bryan. These buildings all look like Sierra West kits. I am collecting O scale SW kits to make a large diorama/small layout similar to what you have done so far, though yours are HO I think?
They are looking fantastic at the moment, the coloration is exactly right...at three feet it blends very well, up close I would like to see another photo....(hint, hint...!)

I like those bridges, particularly the log fill, and the buildings look just great.
