Y'all is fakin it fer the Yankees, I don see know ads or stands for Boiled Peanuts, Fahworks or Moom Pahs.

Also mills and millponds, peanut fields, tobacco fields, cypress swamps and alligators. older brick buildings

I'm a 4th generation Los Angeleno, and my son is stationed in South Carolina and married a Carolina Girl. And for someone whose local railfanning can include Cajon Pass, Tehachapi and the BNSF Needles Sub, the cultural and geographic differences are striking. You'ns even got water in yer rivers instead of concrete or sand. (of course our older brick buildings don't play well with earthquakes.) Waffle House!!!

Don't push me bureaucrat, I've got a bit of hangover

Make sure that water is real muddy and that any food places deep fry or BBQ everything!
I am a transplanted Canadian living in the south....
Boiled peanut stands are a must and grits on the menu for breakfast. I have just never adapted.
I offered to bring that Andy guy over here for some southern exposure... [:-blindfold] but I said I would take him to WV and he got real nervous bout the hill billies.
Remember I live in the occupied states from the war of norther aggression. So if you ever need pictures of stuff let me know.

"and the BNSF Needles Sub" nick and other club members have visited there, indeed we're hoping to go there later this year/problably next year :D

boiledpeanuts? sounds, different :D but lots of ideas, we have part of a town next to the station so ofcorse no doubt lots of ideas will come from our southern members :D
its not the hill billies that scare me, it'll be all the southern girls falling left right and centre for an english gent. :D :P (well i can dream haha)
we've got a nice selection of kits, mostly wood, i had a go at hand carving somestone into this foam insulation sample, its ok, now i know not what to do. we have a stone igloo for explosives out away from the town.
and with that, a while ago NickO kindly sent me some plaster walls and little squares and a couple water tower bases, because i said ive never used plaster before. i painted the water tower bases in agaist the advise of nick and went with a black base and dry brushed ontop, looks ok, no photos because i now see they need much more work.
anyway the walls the smaller bits got A&I, or thin paint washes, not looking too closely at the colours of stone buildings in georgia (whitch seem to look more grey then some of the browns ive used) worring more on layers and drying time. what i learnt.
let each wash dry, as the next lifts the one before and ends up puddling int he centre of the stone, with the white plaster around, and a little less colour in some of the washes, but all in all, not a bad start, the brick work i am most pleased with.

Nice start with the coloring, Andy...dang good for your first attempt! I agree the brick is very effective, with a bit of touchup on the individual stones the coloring will be very effective. You've kept the coloring transparent, which adds so much interest and realism to cast plaster walls. Well done.

The walls look good Andy.

As you say, the bricks are great. I wonder if a bi of dry brushing would bring out the stones more. Were the stones in Georgia quite homogeneous in colour or are there variations?

Built a waterfront HO layout in Ireland http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22161 but now making a start in On30 in Australia

thanks chaps.justa quick start on these, will add some dry brushing then i have a little time.

neil, seems to be fairly simular in color
http://www.superstock.com/stock-photos-images/1599-10506
but i wasnt too fussed on the color on these, but the onein the bottom left seems to be a good match
but there also seems to be some stone buildings that are more gray then anything

Remember, WV (West Virginia) is a Northern state. They separated from Virginia during the war between the states.
I'm sure the girls would love an English gent, just not to sure how they would take to the piercings.

oh the piercings are the least of their worries :D

now the show is over, things can return to normal (well, normal for us)
nick brought along two new cars he's been working on

all built on cheap/free british outline wagon chassis

and charle brought along a water tank in G scale, next to a large glue bottle for size ref

no photos of the layout, i stuck down the rest of platform planking, while nick choped and trimed the rest. the next major job for the club is to sort some shelving out for out outdoor shed, as we cant get into the shed at the moment for metal trestles/club member layouts.
once we have a club meeting where we dont spend half of it talking about our show/other club projects im sure we'll make far more progress.

cheers all

finaly some real progress.

first layer of plaster/tilegrout/pva glue mix for the river bed. this will be built up to form the river bed didnt want to go mad on thick on the first layer. quite pleased with the banks if i do say so myself.

another project of the clubs is to sort the storage in the shed. this was taken care of a couple weeks ago, with the last of the shelving put in last night

once we can start boxing up the big N gauge layout, we shall have more storage as well. as they will take less shelves.

:)
