Right.

allow me to explain the name.
Perfection, because we're full of ourselves and our layout will be, not really, we just thought it had a nice ring to it for a town name.
king's county? well one club member whos not too found of on30, and the club layout (so is building his own HO layout at the same time, whitch will be seen in the background photos) so we named the made up county after him.
why georgia? no real reason other then the layout being roughly based in the somewhere in the south, it sounded nice with the over all name too.

the back story.
as a club, we've built nothing but members layouts for the last gosh who knows how many years, with meeting place after meeting place with no storage we where limited to what we could do.
we now meet at the sompting village hall, and we where granted permission to erect a metal shed. this leaks like a sive and everything with in soon went mouldy, not great, so back to member slayouts/nothing.
at a recent-ish meeting with the powers to be, we put forward that we would love one of the outside brick sheds, since anothe rgroup (babies and toddlers) was moving out, however the powers to be thought 3 model railway clubs having all the sheds would be a bad idea (yeah i cant work that one out too)
so the W.I. was ****ed of one of 4 cupards (they meet once a month and had 4 and only use one...) and FINALY we had something, and we set to work making it work for us with new shelving.
the largest we can fit, is 5 foot by 17inches so thats what we're working too.
time for some photos i think

the egineshed im building, goes up the far end. depot in the middle of the loop, streets at 90' to the track with stores and buildings.
just to be different, in that rather random siding, we're having a pickle factory, maybe not quite southern, but different anyway, we've not seen one on a british(built) layout yet

talking of stores and buildings

hereis our chairman working away on a board joint i think with other goings on in the back ground (sound fitting a connie, and mr king's HO layout) (worth pointing out he started before him, we have more boards, more track and have already run trains...)

and over all (so far..)

the bridge is the main feture of the layout, we wanted different, we where bored of layouts with short and tall trestle bridges, we went the other way, its coloured with creosote! pretty good match we think ;)
and what about the green bit? well thats the fiddle yard, save picking stuff up (and risking it being droped) the whole thing turns a full 360 allowing us to turn trains around, we think we can get 4 tracks on this.

i also got to try something ive always wanted too, hand laying rail

bit wobbly, but then so is most of the track, its ment to be... if anyone asks

and finaly, the thing that we agree saved the club from folding

if you can guess how we get the boards out, i'll give you a cookie.

updates will be roughly weekly since we meet weekly, i shall also post what im doing at home for the layout, im sure you've seen the engineshed, just in case, since we have a few new comers here it is as it stands.

we hope you will enjoy following us each week
cheers
southshore group *coughsplutter* andy

Cool.
Glad your club finally has space to building something.
I for one will enjoy following along.
If you want to fix the bit wobbly track, unless you want that narrow gauge charm, you can add more spikes.
Usually every third or fourth tie works well.

Hi Andy, thought for minute you were building a layout in a 5 foot x 17 inch cupboard ha ha. Anyway thanks for introducing us and I will follow with enthusiasm. Great progress so far on the layout and the engine shed.

thanks rick, so are we too! we will go back with more spikes later, for the moment i've spike right on the bents we'll go back over next week we hope (and run a train over the bridge) however the wobble was where i left the centre line while trying to get to grips with handlaying. its not too noticable, you can kinda see it int he over all photo. at the far end it goes off to the left before comeing back to the centre at the start of the bridge! opps
thanks for following keith!

Hi Andy,
They make pickles in the South, there are pickle factories in GA.
NC is the third largest producer of Pickles in the US. Let me know if the club needs any pictures of southern stuff.

oh thats great to hear larry, the small amount of reasearch we've done *cough* one magazine article*cough* had a plan based on one in the midwest, i shall pass the news onto the chairman :D and im sure we shall take up your offer if we get stuck on something !

bruce thanks!

Nice ones Andy, good start...but don't try to use the green MDF outside, its moisture resistant for bathrooms and so on, indoor only !

How are you mating the ends of the modules? I'm interested in techniques for the joints in my pier.

basic nuts and wing nuts with a slightly oversized hole to allow adjustments works well and has worked well on most layouts we've built. track joints, like my layout and most newer layouts we have worked on, brass screws set at the edges with the rail soldered to them.
