This is a late entry to the 10th Anniversary Challenge, and since it will be an On30 diorama (my first) I'll post a build thread here. The main thread has amazing stuff going on, but a single subject thread can help my focus.

I reserved this kit with Roger Malinowski when I first heard he was basing it on a really great model by Nick Ogden. I had gotten to know Sir NickO, as he is affectionately known to many of us on these forums, at a CSS a few years back. At the St. Louis NNGC Nick, Brett, and I shared a suite and enjoyed modeling talk, comraderie, and beer.

Stoney Creek Designs, Roger's company has produced many fine kits over the years, and I'm excited to try this one. I have a second challenge going on, from Nick and Dan Pickard, to personalize my version and not just build the kit as is. So we'll see.

The first pics show the box, contents, hydrocal walls, NickO, and his inscription on the kit box. The signed copy alone would have allowed me to sell this for thousands on ebay, especially if I had been clever enough to have gotten Roger to sign it as well. The last photo was taken by Rick of Nick's original model, and several more can be found at this link, http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=27767 Maybe there are more photos and a build thread? Please let us know. I've made some progress on the build, and even deviated from the plans. More later.

Mike

I'll be lurking.

Be very careful in this scale-----it is addictive.

The original lines conceived in Nick's build will be hard to improve on. One of the best IMHO.

I'm sure your talent will lend some different finishes and surfaces---I look forward to it.

Pretty risky dipping your toes in the On30 waters.
You know what they say about going back.

With your skills and creativity I think you'll come up with a unique version of this kit.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.

There are two pictures of Nick's model here: http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17979&whichpage=2

Mike

Hell that picture of "Sir Nick" he looks like he already watching you. Be careful. You know how he is finicky like Morris the Cat!!!!

Should be a good build. I'll be watching.

Cor blimey , Mike , you're laying it on a bit thick . I only built a bit of a model , it's not as if I saved the American economy or something !
And as for that picture of me . Thanks alot . If it wasn't a family friendly forum I'd post that shot of you in the shower that Brett took !

Looking forward to seeing how you put your stamp on the kit .

My little challenge is coming along nicely , though it is not ready for public viewing here yet .

Jerry ,

Who the devil is Morris the Cat ?

Hi Mike,
Glad you've been able to get a start on this one. Hope you enjoy the upsize from the usual, and trust you'll have some fun playing with the arrangements.

Nick,
You sure you're ready to introduce your challenge project?

Cheers,
Dan Pickard
