My latest acquisition of brass motive power for my HOn3 branch.
From left to right: 50 ton GE from NWSL; 30 ton Davenport from Westside, and 25 ton GE from Mulvi Models.
I got these from Al Carter (user name Tabooma County Rwy) who is divesting himself of his HOn3 stock. He still has two of the 50 ton GE's (one painted) and one of the Davenports (unpainted).

I will letter the two unpainted locos for the Slate Run. The painted Davenport will be owned by a Chemical Company whose name (not yet chosen) will start with the letter "N". |

As usual what i set out to do for a challenge doesnt eventuate but im happy to get something finished.
Uniited Shay rebuil i have almost finished.

I tried the Alamosa parlor-dinette car and had to do some big sanding

Hello, I would like to know more about making the LaBelle cars closer to prototype. Peter, would you mind explaining what to watch out for? I was about to start 4 coaches and want them to blend in as much as possible. I actually have a total of 18 LaBelle kits to build at this time.

Whew, that's a lot of work ahead. Actually, I would prefer not to do any of them but they make a couple of models that are not available from MRGS, which is my favorite kit maker.
Main issue: The sides/ends are too high. so I cut and sanded both the top (letter board) and the bottom to get the height of the sides down closer to the ones from MRGS (ex E&B Valley).
Some detail parts are just too crude. I had leftover parts from E&B Valley: The vestibule doors and the tool box. The roof is another issue: Way too high and fat. Sand down the top of the clerestory so it gets thinner. Sand down the vaulted roof sides, and sand up from the bottom, too.
A lesson I have learned: Sand down the roof end before you shape the clerestory end.
End railings: made from wire. Underbody: Replace the freight-style combination air tank/brake cylinder with passenger type, I used E&B valley.
For most DRG cars the roof is not usable. Another reason to prefer MRGS with their new resin roofs.

Hey guys i haven't been posting much over the last few weeks. not completing much work to be honest.
I think its going to be a busy few months of locomotive projects for me.
I placed an order with NWSL today for some can motors, coupling drives, shafts, bearsings, and a gearbox.
Also got two ge 70tons off ebay to go with some NWSL stuff i bought a while back.
On the list is. to do
- Balboa D&RGW T-12 remotor and a 60:1 NWSL gearbox. Conversion to a logging style locomotive at the same time.
- The PFM shay above will get a new can motor, fly wheel and all wheel pick up.
- The two 70 ton conversions with NWSl kit then painting & weathering into a logging loco.
I also have a number of structures on the go
- Bar mills pinkhams pallets diorama
- Bar mills Hurst Boiler Diorama
- Sierra west scale models railroad camp bunks
So whats everyone else got going on there bench? |

To answer your question, I have started my passenger car, but opted for a scratch built one in HO standard gauge based on a picture in the Logging Railroads of Pennsylvania series.
The LaBelle kit is still on the shelf. |

Adrian, that is an ambitions list of projects!
Right now, the only project in progress is the scratch built passenger car mentioned in my post above. |

Bruce i always like the prototype pics you pull up for you builds. By the time you finish all your list of scratch builds your going to have some interesting rollingstock.
Most of my list projects are in various stages of completion. The two Bar mills kits are sitting on the shelf in the loungeroom and im being pressured to either make them look nice or move them to somewhere else.
I think im looking forward to the two 70 ton locos the most. Pretty cheam hon3 loco when you can pick them up for $40 of Ebay and do the conversion (ill see how it goes first).
I remember seeing an Alco RS-1 on Geoff Knotts Leigh Creek years ago all done up as a logging loco. |
