Well I am definitely planning to go, I registered and bought tickets for the MRSR day on Tuesday...so committed here. Nothing wrong in planning.
Bellvue is a great city I was there this last February and it was snowing...spectacular.

Does anybody know if camp 6 is still viable? I had heard that it all had to be moved? This is a great place to visit if you go there.

Barry
Congratulations to the committee for the latest press release video.
As you can see I have arranged accomodation, so please advise Janice that I no longer require lodging at the women's hostel[:-apple]
Great to see PAYPAL option available. I've just registered for convention, train ride and shirt. Very quick and simple. Thanks
It was good to see Edward in the vid.
Let me know when you have returned home.
cheers

Big Lars,
A number of attendees are planning on doing Alaska Cruises i conjunction with the convention. They are stopping in Skagway and riding the narrow gauge.

If you're planning an Alaska cruise along with the convention, make sure the cruise you choose does indeed stop in Skagway, not all do. My wife and I wanted to do the Alaska cruise thing, and it so happened that the NMRA National Convention was being held in Seattle around the same time in 2004. So we combined both, came off the cruise and right into the convention. But our ship did not stop in Skagway, much to my dismay; I assumed all did.
To remedy the situation, we again went on the Alaska cruise out of Vancouver in 2006, and I made sure the trip included a stop in Skagway. Spent the whole WP&Y trip on the rear vestibule!
I used my small still digital camera to record a video of the train trip. You can see it here: http://youtu.be/e2Ew97jY_mM
So it would be a good idea to check the cruise itinerary before booking.

| I came through Whitehorse on the Al-Can highway a couple of years back. Too bad the WP&Y does not go all the way to the end. What a neat town Whitehorse is, with the Yukon rover and the Klondike paddle steamer on the front by the depot. |

| If you take the cruise do a one way from Vancouver to Whitter on the inside passage and not a round trip out of seattle. The scenery is far better and yes do make sure the ship stops in Skagway. |

Yep, I'll wander down from Mount Vernon - it's only an hour south of me now.... Not sure if I'll do the hotel thing or try commuting...
I wouldn't pass up a chance to torment Mario.... And Barry.... And, and, and.... |

I will be using this thread to ask for further info. I know it's a long way off, but I have already made early bookings for my "bucket list".
As mentioned earlier, I have been planning this trip for 2 years, especially visiting Vancouver Island, as I have been reading the book "Vancouver Island Railroads".I would assume there are historical sites scattered around VI.
Travelling to and from Seattle to VI and San Juan Islands seem to be a breeze using the various sea shuttles.
Al.... I plan to catch up with you and guys at your place. Once every few years is enough for both of us . I'm sure we will have a chat offline in the coming months.
cheers all

Mario, You can ride amtrack from Seattle to Vancouver. When in Vancouver public transit is cheap to use and includes busses, monorail and ferry boats.
You can ride a ferry to Vancouver Island for a fee.
On the Island you may want to check out this logging museum in Duncan. http://www.bcforestmuseum.com/
You rally must ride the WP&Y in Skagway just trust me on this one. |
