Morning All, as Ed has stated in the NNGC Dinner thread I have started a thread for those who are interested in the "Consolidated Narrow Gauge Railways" (Consol).
I personally think it is a great wayto extend our railroads beyond the RR room and add additional operating capibilites.
Please feel free to voice your opinions and any additional info available.

Ok. This is a Consolidation (pun intended) of what I had in the other thread.
At a On30 meeting at the NNGC there was Chris Lane of Carstens and two gentlement representing Bachmann. The one guy as been like 26 years at Bachmann .. gave what was basically a corporate speech. He gave information out that would have been boring to anyone not interested in the subject. The other guy was Ray Buteux. He talked about the "Consolidated Narrow Gauge Railways". I don't remember it exactly but in 1871 (I think) .. either in 'real life' or in an alternate universe .. there were plans to connect the narrow gauge lines coast to coast. So. In this .. our .. alternate view of reality .. they did this .. and developed a 1871 version of Conrail. The name .. "Consolidated Narrow Gauge Railways". There are decal sheets made up and links and information on this will be on the On30/Chris Lane website. Donno when. The idea then is that in addition to your own narrow gauge cars you would also run these Consolidated (CNGRR) cars. In addition since all of the narrow gauge lines were linked .. you could run cars from other narrow gauge lines. The plan is to (the On30 website??) provide a place to register your railroad, place it on a map and provide a place to trade decals etc. Now .. I found that interesting to say the least. (if I am incorrect at the identification of the Bachmann gentlemen please correct me)
These decals were printed on an ALPS printer. The sheets are 8x10 and cost $30 for both or $15 a sheet. I think the plan is if this kicks off to get the decals custom printed so the cost would drop but figure it was worse case about twice what a Microscale decal sheet runs (assuming the MS sheet is 8x10).
Here again is the sheet showing decal sheet 1 ..

.. and here is the actual decal sheet scanned. The white didn't scan worth a darn against the blue of the decal sheet but .. you can compare to the first one to see better.

Looking at the first photo .. the top row with the Consolidated Narrow Gauge Railways is labeled for Reefer . the next row of small (very) is for Member Cars .. I assume YOU logo car with this small CNGRR logo stuck somewhere and the third row reefer data. This is all in black. Everything else is white ... umm .. hand labeled on that first photo as .. reading down .. Tenders, Standard Herald, Standard Letters, Hopper, Flats, Gons etc., Hopper, Stock, Hopper, Tank, Box vent, frames etc.
Decal sheet 2 is for passenger cars

I E-mailed Chris Lane about Consol and he wrote back saying there will A write up in the next On30 Annual that will have maps and diagrams. I invited him to stop in here on the Forum and add or discuss this with us.

@Mark. Good job. I hate keep referring to 'the bachmann guy' but darn .. I cant' remember his name. He Ray Buteux indicated that there would be a place to become a member .. so you could register your RR .. and then post up your route .. so it could be added to the map. I THOUGHT that Chris Lane said that would be on the On30 Annual website .. but I may have that wrong.
In the meanwhile .. need to come up with both a route and a logo for my rr. |

Hi Guys,
The other Bachmann gentleman is Ray Buteux. This is basically his idea. As mentioned we will have a full write-up of the concept in the next On30 Annual for 2012, which is right around the corner. He makes the three-color decals for the Consolidated and sells them for $30. This allows you to letter 30 cars. Buck-a-car, what a deal! All will be revealed in the issue, but this concept allows you to run foreign/interchange equipment on your line or justify a car and loco that wouldn't normally be seen on your layout by lettering it for the Consolidated. The coolest thing about this, I believe, is that you can place your railroad anywhere in the US/Canada/Mexico and you can see when your line is in relation to the other member lines on the map. That map will be hosted and updated on the On30 Annual website, as will the list of participating railroads. This will appear a few weeks after the issue comes out in late November.

Hey Tom, as I understand the concept you would submit your railroad as a member of the Consol and would have a offlayout connection to the rest of the area. Our made up railroads would remain ours, but we could trade decals and /or cars with our freinds and be able to say they were interchange traffic from the Consol system. Just like the real std. gauge railroads do.

My RR is fictitious but located in New England/NY area so should be able to connect somehow.

Hey Larry, just extend yours down to just ficticiously connect to Tom's railroad and he could reach out to connect to Ron's and so forth. There may be other railroads in between that can connect to yours. It can be one hugh railway system.
Just think of the traffic one could have going through your railroad. We could even justify an exchange program just like the HO guys have.
