Bill,

I think it's because the links you provided may require membership (e.g., password activated). Is there a public link option for your album?

Vern-here is a couple of closeups of the Rich Yoder GE 50-ton locomotive. By on30 standards, it is a large locomotive-I need to enlargen the clearance in several locations on the T & P before it can operated on all of the sidings. I was initially very disappointed as it ran very poorly and derailed every few feet-BUT it turns out one of the wheels was not set in the frame of the trucks. Once I popped it into place it ran much better. The detail is very nice, The louvers on the side are see-through and the interior is exactly like the real thing.
note-these pics are from before I installed the windows and other details

Great photos Duane, thanks very much. It's a beautiful loco...it does look big, but it's perfect for your latter-day power for the TyP. I have to confess, with rails not too far from the former SP branch in Clifton, it's tempting to consider one working interchange with my little line...or a second-hand purchase that was regauged to 30".

The detail looks awesome...do the headlights work (front and rear)? Are the marker lights illuminated? Also, did the builder provide a way to light the number boards? Sorry for all the questions, but I am considering one of these based on your great photos.

It is a beautiful model, and now that I figured out the operational snafu, I'm glad I splurged on it. The downside is that I am afraid to weather it, and it looks a little out of place next to some of the Bachmann models as it is a little nicer. Btw, the front and rear headlights are operational,The marker lights and number boards are not. The number boards would be fairly easy to light, the marker lights would be more challenging.

Thanks, Duane...it looks very snazzy in its SP livery, I can see why you would be reluctant to weather it. What radius curves do you run it on, I assume you have tight curves.

The radius was intended to be around 20-22", but like everything else on the Torres & Prietas it was built, rather than engineered, so in some places the radius is around 18". Tracklaying is not my forte.

Ahh, I think the E&SG must have used the same 'builders' (as opposed to engineers). Good work when you can get it, both sides of the border!

I think I have the same "engineer" as the builders of the SC, PA & M:

Kodak links are supposed to be "public" side of my galleries os I do not know what is wrong. They just time out without loading.

Duane-

The Yoder 50 tonner looks great on your layout. I have one of his 25 tonners, and even that loco looks very big on my layout pulling 3 and 4 car trains. The 25 tonner runs great, but it has P48 profile wheels, which are quick to derail and pick points. Does the 50 tonner have different wheelsets that track better?

Thanks,

Mark-Ill need to widen the clearance on a few places of the railroad before I can give an accurate answer about the track-ability, but the flanges do look smaller than the Bachmann flanges...

The wheels on my On3 version fit NMRA On3 profile so they are virtually the same as HO wheels and P:48 SG wheels.

Actually On3 wheel profile followed prototype long before others thanks to Cliff Grandt, Lee Klaus, Jack Alexander and other pioneers. They got away from the deep flange of a lot of early stuff and were using OO and HO wheels before they started doing their own. Go to www.nmra.org and you can get the numbers for comparison.

On a 4 wheel loco without springing or equalization you can expect the wheels to pick at imperfections. Do check the gauge of the wheel sets though.

Still working to clear some of the tight clearances to let the new loco operate. At least two or three sidings will remain off limits. Here area couple of side by side comparisons, pardon the mess on the unfinished smelter yard:

Thanks, nice to know that you enjoy the T & P thread, as I realize it is pretty far off mainstream.
Unfortunately, my window for outdoor operating and photography has came to an end: Since I live on the "wet side" of Oregon, sunny days after mid-October are few and far between, so yesterday I made the most of the down time and started revamping a few early sections that were not up to par.
I also need to come to a decision as to wiring/operation. Currently the layout is operated with just a basic, cheapee mrc controller, with one locomotive(the Shay, which is not operational as the gears finally split after years of loyal service))operated by remote control. During football this afternoon Ill do a little research as to dcc systems, but am looking for input from people more experienced in electronics as to what brand/system they would recommend for a small layout like the T & P, keeping in mind that I am really cheap and electronically challenged. btw, I doubt I'll ever run more than two locos at a time, but am looking at installing sound. any input appreciated! thanks, Duane
