Hi,
this small layout has been sitting in my workshop for years now.

The bottom half of it was mostly finished. A few detail pictures can be found on my old website at http://narrowgauge.railfan.net/willich.html
This winter I decided that this is a good place to try out some scenery techniques and materials. In the meantime the upper, more rural part, was finished. I hope to find time to take some photos over the weekend.

Ok,
so here are the pictures of the rural area.
First an overview:

The small bridge on the right:

The siding in the center:

On the left side of the layout there is a small farm with a garden:

Except for some little people and cattle I consider that part of the layout finished.
Any comments, suggestions and criticism is highly welcome.
Currently I'm working on structures for the other half of this layout. I'll post picture as I make progress.

| Martin that looks great! The backdrop works nicely with the foreground and the garden is one of the more realistic ones I've ever seen. [:-thumbu] |

Very nice work, Martin. I like that vegetable garden - you don’t see it modeled very often, even though they are a common sight.

Thanks for the compliments. Here is a closeup shot of the garden:

In fact it was quite easy to do this with of-the-shelf products:
From left to right:
- Beans from Noch
- Cucumbers from Busch
- Cabbage from Noch
- Tomatoes from Busch
Took some time though.

Great wee layout! I also really like all the details and colouring in the vegetation.
When are we going to see the other side? |
Built a waterfront HO layout in Ireland http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22161 but now making a start in On30 in Australia |

Once I get to work on it. At the moment I'm working on a different, but related, project: http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=33644
Once this is finished I'll get going on the other side. Might be that there will be more "in progress" shots.

While this thread was quiet for some time, I've been busy with projects related to this layout.
I spent some time painting and weathering eight Roco coal cars.
Before I started they looked like this:

Some extensive airbrushing and a little drybrushing made them look like this

For me this was an extended airbushing lesson.
There is some motive power waiting to be painted next. But for a change I'll work on a structure kit first.

Martin today is the first time I lloked at your wor. The layout is very well done. The transition of colour from the layout to the backboard is right on!! Congratulations! The rust weathering on the Roco cars is very good. Seeing as they are coal cars you may want to dust on so black weathering all over especially on the parts that would get coal dust such as the horizontal areas.. |

Chuck,
thanks for the compliments and your suggestion. I'll give it a try when I have my weathering powders out next time. The upper half of the cars was sprayed with Tamyia Smoke to make it look like coal dust. But some chalks would probably enhance that. Also this would probably reduce the white drybrushing which is a bit too harsh.
