In an effort to both honor Carl's contributions to the hobby and to add to his already awesome website we are going to try this. What we are looking for is layouts that fit his goals, meaning no bigger than 4-6 feet regardless of scale (even smaller would be better) and no dioramas. Other than that pretty much anything goes. You can post either a completed layout or construction photos as you build one.
Just remember that by posting in this thread you are giving permission for your content to be used freely on/at his website. It is still your property and can be used by you anywhere else you want as well.
Now let's see some very tiny layouts! [:-magnify]

Well that disqualifies my 2x6 Inglenook.
Carl was at our NMRA Jamboree about three years ago when he still lived in our area. We had my 2x6 Inglenook layout and another fellow had a Timesaver. The timesaver had a frame around the front that made it look like you were looking onto a theatrical stage. Carl was tickled about this. He was a big fan of using the proscenium and other theatrical stage elements (tormentors for example)in creating the mini/micro.

| Back in August 2006 Carl defined a SMALL layout as "under 4x6ft or 120x180cm" (Page 52 of the "Scrapbook"). The website is, and I hope always will be, primarily concerned with MICRO layouts (4sq feet or less) but has included plenty of small layouts as well. I think there is a definite Transatlantic difference of opinion on micro and small. A lot of British layouts fall into the category of under 4x6, or the same area in shelf form, but are not considered as small. My On30 layout along one wall of the garage is long and thin (actually three modules and a pair of fiddleyards) and I would not consider it as small even though the total area is less than 24 square feet (4x6). However, Carl's own definitions should be the one we take as the standard and I'll be building a micro in conjunction with this challenge. |

| just ordered some ties hopefully they will get here in a couple of weeks, then I will be able to finish my micro layout and send in some pictures before I ship to BCT. |

| Bob I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with and I agree with you on Carl's size definition. However anything that is close I would encourge people to post em' and Jack can chose what he feels is best to post to the website. Josh can we get some construction pics as well? |

I have to wait until monday to get my 1/4" plywood.....
They have it now on special-order only at my lumberyard.....
It gave me some more time to plan the layout however |
