Looks like the fellas in the shop are working late tonight, perhaps to finish a special project.

Meanwhile, Jim and Pete are waiting (lower right corner) for Ernie and Otis to move the
engine (far right, middle) out and over to the short-stall side of the house.

After switching tracks, Ernie eases the engine in to retrieve the Blue Springs special, . .

. . .and out she rolls, . .

. . .sporting new wheel-sets and lettering.

The boys were a-sayin', 'All she needs now is a blue racing strip!'

Well Allen, Looks like Pete, Otis, Jim, Ernie and the boys in the shop have been working late to 'repair' the box car.
Looks nice. Was there something wrong with the wheel sets? It ran fine across my railroad. Might look pretty neat
with blue racing stripe.

Bill, . .They are the same wheel-sets; I just added some rust Floquil to their outsides, just like I see the new rail-
cars come out of Gunderson here in Portland. I haven't been able to locate some blue stripe decals; maybe I'll get
brave and mask them off and dawn the air brush.

That is awesome Allen , That looks much better, yea the wheels where new when i set her off, ..This car can be
a traveling weathering car for all to add on to. It will go on display in a glass case and the story of were she has
been for our open house when she comes back. A blue strip sounds good to me.

Hoping to get to the club tonite now that i am back in town and get photo of the car I just got.

Thanks Allen great intro.

Great looking pictures Allen.

I like the idea of a traveling 'weathering' car. That way if one of us drops it or some such we can just blame it
on the 'weather'.

Got a special treat this evening after work as I stopped by to see 'Fingers' Foley over at Knox Yard.
A Missouri Pacific 50' Railbox car had just arrived on the interchange track from Michigan. Not only
did I get to see a new car coming to the Valley, but the yard guys had just finished working on the
Maine Central Steamer in anticipation of the railfan season, so they decided to give it a bit of a work-
out getting the MP car spotted for it's run to the Upper Valley later in the week.

I followed the activity through the yard and got these pics...

In this last picture you can see a Rutland RS-3 idling in the yard. They just arrived from the Upper Valley and
will be making the return trip after some R&R.

I hope to get some pics of the MoPac car when it starts it's journey to the Upper Valley.

I went down to the New Haven yard to watch some trains today. I caught NA5 departing from the A&D track
with DL109 0702 in charge today. NA5 is the daily except Sunday reefer train to Hartford, CT. It drops cars
and picks more up then goes to Springfield, MA. with a connection on the B&A (NYC)to Albany, NY.

The train is in charge of Engineer Dan Walker, Fireman Woody Ford and Conductor Bill Hayes today. Bill is
a good friend and phoned me about the action today.

Here is DL109 leaving the A&D track.

Here NA5 eases out onto freight main #2 headed north to Hartford.

I got in the car and caught the train passing through Wallingford station. I snapped a photo of this car that I
had not seen before.

I drove to Meriden and snapped another photo of the Great Lakes and Eastern #50001 car again.

I had to stop the chase here and I will drive to Hartford tomorrow to see if I can still find the car.

Oh and here is a video of the train passing through Wallingford CT.

Dave, nice to see Crispy's car made it to Maine. I don't recall, but are you using Radical Flats as your backdrop buildings?

I was wandering around town this afternoon waiting for the boys to get out of school and I noticed an un-
usual box oar that had arrived and was sitting in the yard.

This was a new one on me so I sought out the yard master and asked him what it was all about. Well, it
turns out that The Jewel Company is from further up-state in Illinois, in Cubs territory to be precise, which
is why we don't see these all that often in Cardinal Nation. He would not let on what the load was, but said
that it would likely cause "a bit of a stir" when it reached its destination.

A bit later it was being switched out onto a local and getting ready to head to its destination.

I could not hang around as I had to get the boys, and they don't like being kept waiting at the school.

On the way home I decided to take them for a treat at Picorelli's Ice-cream. It is a favorite spot for a snack,
right next to the interlocking tower. Well guess what was sitting in the siding?

Yep, right there at Picorelli's sat our Jewel in the rough! Its not the best neighborhood and I won't let the kids
go there on there own. The Coliseum Ball Room, across the street, was a hot-bed of prohibition illegal alcohol
consumption and even today attracts the wrong sort of folks. Turns out that the car was loaded with Bourbon
extract, some destined for the Coliseum bar, but much of it going into Picorelli's store room. Looks like our pur-
veyor of fine Ice-cream is planning on making a few new flavors!

We could not resist and popped in for a cone. The boys had chocolate and cookie dough. I could not resist a
taste of the a brand new flavor on the menu "Old Bluegrass ass-kicker" "It'll knock you down quicker than you
can give it a lick" At least that is what the menu says!!

I think Picorelli's is going to be mighty popular with the local populace!!

For those down the line, don't worry, only a partial load of Bourbon Extract was unloaded here in Illinois.
The rest is consigned for onward shipment. Apparently the Jewel car is to be taken to the freight house
where a partial load consignment will be added for forwarding to the next destination. More on that later.

Allen, he spent hours on Trainz building the thing. If he is not running trains on my layout he us running his N scale in his room, or Lego trains in the living room or on the PC with Trainz. He is without doubt my train buddy!
