not sure what to do with the roof yet, i think the prototype has canvas judging by the photo. but i may try something else.

The trailer is going to be really cool, with axel and hubs showing, you got lugs there too. A dawg sitting underneath gettin out of the sun. Imagine a metal roof or canvas roof that has been partially covered with canvas or Tin...just thrown up there. So many possibilites to do...Way to go!!!

see les, now your in my frame of mind :P ive got some lead foil to use as tarps and such, while i dont want to cover the whole roof in it (it cost me a bomb for a small sheet, seams in american you can buy it by the roll!) but i want to do a small covered portch and rather then use tin or wood i was going to make a frame and have some of this lead sheet up there to look like a tarp roof, very rushed. might was well have it held down ont he roof of the trailer with a few bricks left over from holding up the trailer.

thanks martin.

i desided to go with the the dark red and mixed a batch of tamyia hull red and flat red till it kinda looked right, also mixed a touch of white in for one panel. just to break the uniformness up, will come back later and pick out the trim in grey etc. and weather it from there (nothing too heavy though)

also did deside to trim the tounge down, now looks much better, quite pleased how this is coming along, and seeing as the yorke kit is something like $50-$60 verses a few pence worth of plastic card, off cuts of angles. some NBW castings and a few hours work over a couple days its quite pleasing
just need to figure out how i am going to make the curtains (mostly missmatched too)

You are doing a terrific job at this. You don't have access to what we call here foil ductape...not thin lead sheets. Maybe we should package up some of this stuff, for like 5$ I have a huge roll I will never use. Here in the states they use foil ductape for airconditioning vents in attics. So cover the roof in heavy duty tissue..like one gets in new shirts, paint it black or silver. Then make a tarp out of the same stuff...drape it while its wet. Anyway its gonna be super, your attention to detail on this is good.

alot of military modelers use lead foil

http://www.militarymodelling.com/forums/postings.asp?th=45011&p=2

nearish the bottom the guy's made a folded tarp from the stuff, i brought what i got last year some point for tarps and stuff like flags etc. it seams to have the advantage of being able to crease like fabric and stay that way.
we do have that metal tape, infact my dad has a roll in his van, i may use that for the roof of the trailer undesided yet but im not giveing the roof a whole lot of thought untill i make it

paints being funny with me today, despite only adding a tiny drop of white the odd panel i did dried much more whiter then it thought, yet its not unitform. so. i have the funny feeling whoever it was who owned the trailer before the railroad (maybe he was even the guy who built it) desided he would rub it down and repaint it. and only got as far as rubbing down one panel, and not very well. :P

Andy,
Here where I used the foil, I like the wringly texture, and it works for a variety of uses. I have some of the lead foil too, but when I found this it just seemed to be the right thing, its got a glue back...

The foil is on the cab half wall...

The roof...

ahh cool thanks les. looks great as a roof and for patches, i was going to add a patch on my garage but wasnt sure how, may have to give that a wurl later.

anyway here is the trailer

see what i mean how the odd panel looks as if it has been sanded back. quite bizzare but a happy acidentin weathering. alos think it looks much better with the smaller tounge now too.

alos these are the LP i have been painting last week, forgot the take a photo while they still have cocktail sticks in a rather uncomfy place. all buffalo landing figures and just blooming wonderful! all painted in my normal figure painting, prime, base, details, dark wash, light drybrush, varnish. really pleased how they came out.

The trailer looks good redish, and yes the tang looks better shortend. Odd that area did what it did, something on the stryene likely. Your figure painting is very good, nice subtle colors. I have buffalo landing people too...nice they are.

Andy --

The trailer and gang look GREAT! Real nice scratchbuilding job, there ...

BTW, tea bags and coffee filters have a nice woven material that can be useful for tarps, canvas, etc. See first photo on this page:

thanks guys.

dalles thanks the link, really good idea, and seeing as i have 15-20 cups of tea day a think i could save a couple bags.

a fairly productive weekend, i got a head start on painting some details i already have, jerry cans, drums, jacks, boxes etc, also have a light bulb came on, after seeing and reading les' uses for the metal duct tape thought "ahh that might work for the crutains" and 30 mins later have a few sets of them, also cut out the clear plastic for glass, i spreyed what would be the outside with a "matt varnish" (thats only slightly satin) to take the shine off, and if really looks great with the curtains in place.

photos later

also been looking at a few local timber yards for some off cuts of ply larger enough to make the end boards (that box the layout up for transit and storage) mostly because sheet wood now days is silly expensive, and most of it is utter crap, and seeing as a friend of mine regularly picks up of cuts of stuff like 4footx1foot ofcuts for 50p a go, should hopfuly be worth the wait. but untill i do i can go much frether with the baseboards, i.e glueing down details like switch stands etc
