Andy,

You sure are outdoing yourself on that tree, it looks fantastic already, can't wait to see it finished.

Really nice tree Andy! I have made a few that way and know the time it takes... I make the trunk and inner branches from floral wire with plaster, then hotglue the seamoss branches on.

wow thanks for all the comments guys! not bad for a 1/4 of a tree :P

i sent an email to our own ian hodgkiss about the MiniNatur oak leaves (that come on a fiber pad) he didnt seam to show stock for the large (1:48th) ones and without being able to see the products in person it cant judge it like a few other things if the HO ones would better suit O scale. failing that i may well just buy more of the loose oak leaves from plus models/model scene etc and use them on a fibe base like that pond filter stuff

Nice Job on the Tree.. Andy....Having Used Ardex Grout in the past I can honestly say you finally found a use for which it is likely best suited....As an actual Tile grout its Horrid...As a Base for building up a Tree...Perfect!!

its not all that bad :D our downstairs loo is groutd with the stuff :P

been working on my trees again, the oak looks as if its hit puberty rather fast.... i found some bubber horse hair that i teased out, painted (black base, brown and dry rattle cans) amd tested out and stuck on, also added a few leaves to the wire/seamoss tree.

however i also fitted the little bit of sky that hides the fiddle yard to the baseboard, and the big old oak hits the farm supply when boxed up (to the point where it wont box up) i cant move the building, and i flat out refuse to cut the tree back (because it would make it look far to skinny) so ive got to deside what to do, A, make new end boards that are 4-5 inches longer so the boards when boxed up will be feather apart, or B, make the tree removeable.

bit of a pain in the bum.

Hey Andy,

If you put too much foliage on your tree, how are you gonna be able to see the trapped cat?

(Of course, Vicky wouldn't get herself into such a predicament - would she?)

hehehe nah she wouldnt, shes far to old and lazy do climb trees, the most she can manage is the coffee table.

i worked out how much id have the change the end boards, 3inchs seams to work, bit of a pain because i remember the off cuts i got for the end boards where 3 inchs to long >_< oh well, now that i know its not too long what i'll think i'll do is cut them in half, spread them apart and fix them back together with some 2"x1" braces running the whole lengh at the sides glued and screwed, ive got enough left over ply to just cut a little 3 inch slat to fill the gap, that way it'll save me from having to buy new wood and trying to re drill the bolt holes in the very same place.

however the offending tree :P

when i get tot he point of ording stuff like grass fibers i shall go over this with the 6mm and 2 mm fibers, then with the loose oak leaves.

no to much cover i think, opinions?

sorry for the crap photos, cameras dead so i used my mobile phone.
cheers

Andy, first tree probably needs a good "trim" with a small, sharp scissors. I think you may have too much in already, but it could be the photo.
Second tree looks "super duper".....but maybe another light dose of the red/brown tea leaves....unless it's "late" in the season and most leaves have already fallen.....

Great tree Andy, go with Sully on this one, less fibers on the first will give it a more airy look..

thanks guys

its a bit of both sully. it dose need a trim, but some of the bits need teasting up and down (i.e. the bottom one on the left is very flat at the moment) and then i'll have a look at whitch ones need a trim. the thing im keeping in mind is that i have to hide a sharp corner, so i dont want it too open. i'll have to wait and see what the fibers and leaves do to it too.

i think i may add some to the other, maybe with some noch leaves for their shape we shall see, nothing is ever set in stone with me :P

after boxing up the layout yesterday with its new ends, i heard a "knock" and wasnt sure what it was, couldnt see anything, but i latter found out part of the bricks to hold up the trailer came loose (i suspect i may have knocked it when fitting the fiddle yard backscene) so i'll be glueing that back on :P cant have a wonky trailer

I don't care for the tree with the 'fibers'.
But the second one with the red tea leaves is dead on. As a Scout, I would recognize that immediately as a hardy oak.

Andy, I really like the trees. They don't have to look the same, right? They could be different types are the same type at different levels of maturity. Even when they are the same type of tree standing right next to each others wild trees will develop at different rates. The one with the tea leafs looks likes it just getting it's new spring leafs while the other started a bit earlier and is fuller.
