thats a good on the trey martin, im sure we have a few around here.
thanks ron, im hopeing so too. i want to try and make it look like its had a couple of lower limbs cut off, so rather then looking like it's grown to fit the railroad (as it is now) it should hofuly look like it was there before the railroad and cut to fit the loading gauge. not sure how but i think small-ish discs of plasticard stuck on then sheped around when i get to adding some bark and painted. we'll see. |

Good, Andy. You've been able to not overweed the scene. Great self-control!

thanks frederic, there is a tone of smaller details to go in, but nothing large (the largest is an old gas pump) but everything else will go on and around the resin junk piles, and alot the fence on the left, and in the gap between that fenct and the farm supply i suspect only a couple barrals a few boxes and some trash finds it way there.
working on the backscene boards again today, the smaller one that will hide the fiddle yard has been joined to the very small one that goes across the tracks to join up with the main board at the back of the layout. the backscene is on its way but i still need to get stuff from the diy store, as well as some artists spray varnish to protect the photographic backscene (seeing as this is a layout to go to shows with it only takes one rainy day while loading/unloading to ruin somthing like a backscene)
also made the last loading dock for the fraight shed. glued a card base for it to sit on and filled the holes with grout mix. also bent the main tree into its final shape using the backscene as a guide so once my father gets home from work i can borrow is plaster and start covering it. in other words a busy day
p.s. r.e. WS long grass stuck onto shrink wraped card. they worked pretty well, some need alot of triming but it was far easier to get them into tight spaces then it was if i was doing it the normal way of cutting and glueing directly onto the layout. very pleased |

so with out any plaster i thought id give a tile grout mix a try to cover my trees. im sure its a bit heavyer then the plaster would have been, but needs must and money is tight. so i mixed a couple spoons full of grout, added some water, and PVA glue mixed it up and started covering two of my trees, they are still drying but nothing magic here, brush on, fill any gaps, and a smooth over with a damp brush. what i think i;ll do next is coat the whole thing in water and PVA before painting, but i think my sawn off branch has worked pretty well thus far, its going to need careful painting to finnesh

alos a rather poor photo of the staircase with extra weeds
bit hard to see but most of the ones under the stairs came from my experiment samples. a couple made it out intot he open
and lastly i brought this stuff a couple years ago, basicly its dyed carpet underlay (old style fuzzy stuff not the newer foam ones)(or more likely car insulation) both a bit hard to find now but a smallish sheet for a pound i wasnt going to pass up, glue it down fuzzy side down, leave it to dry and pull the backing up, its works fine for rough long grass and in my case is more then ideal as a base thats only going to get mostly hidden by bushes and weeds. but still cool

more of the tree

here it is with WS fine turf, dirt colour (for texture) in the place its going, once its covered with leaves should hide that corner quite well.
and painted, but it looks far too brown for my likeing, need to work on that

Andy That texture on the tree really works, are you going to dry brush it now?

Andy,
The WS dirt on the tree gives it thunk a great bark texture. Going to have to remember that trick when I get around to making my trees.

Thanks guys! welll i spent most of yesterday doing a bit, looking at it doing a bit more, and in the end i came up with this

sorry the photos a bit naff, its quite hard to get a photo with the colour just right when you;re trying to focus on small bits of wire :P
its had a dry brushing of lighter browns and greys and some work done on the cut off limb and now im happy with it, i may come back and make some of the ends of the branches lighter.
now i just need to find this garden pond filter fiber stuff. |
