In addition to the sawmill I have been playing around with the layout. I got tired of the flatness and decided to add a switchback to gain height so I could add the orebin from the Dolly Varden. The sawmill will still go in the far corner.

Kewl...I LOVE switchbacks...I am sure yours will be as distinctive as the rest of your layout, Roland! (PS, nice railroad room!)

Switchback and relief. Another fine dimension added to your work. I'll be following with pleasure your progress towards altitude...

Cracking idea using a switch back!

Often see them in South American railways, but rarely modelled, very refreshing. I would like nothing more than to have a go at modelling something loosely based on the four switchbacks on the Devils Nose in Ecuador, space would be one hell of an issue though.

Look forward to further updates!

Cheers,

Stephen

Thanks again guys. The window shutters will saty closed, but SWMBO says no backdrop across the window. I'm as curious as the rest of you as to how this will turn out.

A little more work on the mill this week. Everything is glued down now and started with sawdust.

Also playing around with carving rocks into the styrofoam. Ignore the colors. Just want opinions on wheather I'm wasting my time.

Thanks, Roland

Roland, in all honesty, that is probably the best looking rocks I've seen carved into foam yet.
Great job and definitely not wasting your time.

Hi Roland,
Those rocks arent a waste of time at all. Nice shaping and variation. The one thing that I find often becomes a problem with this style of carving rocks into the styrofoam, is obvious join lines on the material. You look to have done a pretty good job at disguising this on this effort. Any parts that you feel still catch your eye as a join, can easily be hidden with some long grass, small bush, trees in front, small talus mound etc.

The mill is looking rather nice as well. The long flow of it should keep eyes busy studying the detail for some time.

Cheers,
Dan Pickard

You simply amaze. Those rocks are perfect and Dan gave you a few hints to try if your not satisfied.

Waste of time I THINK NOT!!
