If only I could claim half of your skill and attention to detail!

You, sir, are a modelling wizard.[:-star]

John, Many thanks for the nice words, much appreciated, but I'm just a guy who loves this hobby.

I'm sure that most model modeler's on this list are aware of the wonderful model railroad
being built by Troels Kirk. He has a very artistic approach
to this hobby and has turned out some outstanding structures and scenes.
Long ago he made a simple little building that he called a boot or shoe shop.
Something about that structure, simple as it was, appealed to me.
My next project will be one based on Troels's structure, not an exact copy, buy close.
I will double the scale (Troels works in 1/48, O scale), change the material to styrene (Troels uses card), and change it from a shoe shop to a small dental office.
Can't wait to get started and will post my efforts.

Bob

A building with character and very well executed. Looking forward to your next one.

Thank you Will, I appreciate your comment.

I have started on the little structure mentioned above, a near copy of Troels Kirk's shoe shop, changed to fit my needs and scale.

The walls were cut from.030 styrene.

the door, windows, and sign frames were added, again styrene.

More later.

Troels gave me permission to post a photo of his original design.
It's a simple little structure but for some reason I like it
and I have to make one.
Let's see how it translates to 1/24 scale in styrene.

The next step was to cut a whole bunch of clapboards from .020 styrene.
I know that some modelers, including Troels, have attached clapboards by using double sided tape.
I have never done that and wanted to try it so that's how I attached the boards. Seems to work even with styrene.

I made the door and windows the same way as I did for the Dry Goods Store, all styrene.
Even though this is not the way I usually depict nails on a model,
I wanted to show the nail holes as per Troels's model. Modelers in the smaller scales
use a pounce wheel to make these depressions.
That would not wok for me because I do not have a pounce wheel
big enough, and one wouldn't mark the styrene anyway.
I marked off the studs and then used a hand motor drill to
drill the holes.

Bob, your build is coming along nicely! Fun to see it in another scale... The foundation was carved from blue foam, and I ended up with a shingle roof. Still slightly worried by the denstist use though ;-)

Troels, Not to worry. I already have the sign made.
I am naming it after my family dentist and true to the old
saying, he is a "Painless Dentist". However, I am not sure
if that means that it's the patient or the dentist
that feels no pain!!

The dry goods store came out fantastic Bob, great style and finish. I look forward to seeing your interpretation of Troels Boot shop. A nice simple but appealing structure.

Karl.A, Thanks, your comments are always welcome and appreciated. I will be borrowing
from you again on this project. Wait and see.

Troels, Yes, that is true, however, I have complete control over this "dentist".
If he charges too much I can tramp on his office.

Cheers,
Bob

Got some paint and a bit of pealing paint on it so it doesn't look so flat. I do not have Troels's artistic talent so
I have to rely on washes. It will get a bit of dry brushing and some wearthering after it all comes together.

Bill, Thanks for your comment, much appreciated.

Started working up the window treatment. Got the "glass" in place and then added the blinds (construction paper).
I wanted to add curtains to the bottoms of the windows (my wife says they are called cafe curtains).
This is where I borrowed from you Karl.A. A while back on one of his build strings,
Karl posted a sheet of printed curtains for others to use.
I borrowed the cafe curtains but cut away the printed curtain rods
and substituted fine styrene rods.
The side curtains are just pieces of facial tissue.

Looks like it's time to start erecting the walls.
