Now for a new project. I have been wanting to make some replacement buildings for some of the buildings I made years ago, quickly, to get something up fast. I have used some printed buildings from from KingMill Enterprise to make some 3-sided background structures and I think they look good. KingMill uses a photographic method to make their background structures and I think they look fantastic. Since I work in 1/24 scale I have to enlarge the prints because they are all HO scale. What turned me on to this project was a new sheet they came out with showing four different building sides. Two have great "ghost signs", painted signs that have faded and weathered. I like them but my favorite is a building that remains when the adjacent structure has been torn down.
I enlarged that print and glued it to a sheet of foam-core. I trimmed a few inches from the rear so it would fit where I want it.

Now that wall is flat and looks ok but there are three pilasters that should stand out. I printed a second copy of the side and cut out around each pilaster leaving enough paper so that I could wrap it around some foam-core strips and glue it in the backs. That let the sides of the pilasters be covered with the brick detail.

Now comes the FUN part. At this point I have no idea of what this front will look like. I took a piece of .030 styrene sheet and cut it to the hight of the side piece and as wide as I want for the front. I chose 7 inches, a scale 14 feet. I then drew two lines vertically, 3/4 inch inside the left and right edges. Those are to keep me from getting too close to the edge. Then I mark in where the floors would be, I figured a 10 foot celing on the first floor and 8 foot celings on the second and third floors. I am not going to be modeling those floors, that's just to keep me in bound when looking at the front, a feeling of where the floors are. Then I drew in and cut out the openings for a door and windows.

Then I sit back and start glueing on styrene strips to build up the detail. I have no plan, I simply keep adding strips and sheet pieces until I like the looks. If you work with styrene as I do it goes fast because the liquid cement dries almost instantly. Also, this is a great project to use up all those scrap pieces you've been saving for years.

Hi Bob, I have not checked in with you for awhile now,but having corrected this today. I find that you are still building the fantastic stuff that you have in the past.I think you should consider changing your handle from sgtbob to the "The Crowned King Of Styrene"

Thanks for the comments, Gregg. I must say that you gave me a chuckle this morning.
I do use a lot of other materials in my modeling, wood, card, etc, but yes, styrene is by far my favorite. I think it was back in the 1960's that Al Armitage pushed the use of sheet styrene and he was REALLY the king of styrene. He wrote for most of the model RR magazines. I am still in awe at some of his models. Anyway, I read all his stuff, tried it, and now I think styrene can't be beat.

Looking great Bob. The cornice and store front really stand out well. Wonderful modelling.

Thanks Greg, you're making my head expand. This one is not just styrene, it also uses card, foam-core, and paper.
I have a lot of work to do on this project but I just joined the two sides and I had to post these photos. Needs touch-up here and there and I want to make a small base for it. Most of my structures have interiors. I'm not sure about this one, it is background. I may simply add a few items in the show window.
