| I was actually thinking of the entire cornice; all that appears white in the model right back to the wall of the building, but even then that's probably only 1/8" thich or so, so my idea is a bit silly. Might work in F,G,or H though. |

Yeah, in 1:24 (aka "half scale" in the dollhouse world) you can get some ready-made molding strips. For example, go to this site and search "half scale molding" ... probably a bunch more out there ... and some of that could be pretty useful in slightly smaller scales: http://www.manchesterwoodworks.com/ |

Dallas,
Great way to make the cove molding. I can see that method working in O scale. Something to file away for future use.

Thanks for that dallas. Some of thise 1:24 doors are great. In the 1:12 there was some crown moulding which might do for cornice trim in O scale.
I did find an 1/8" radius roman ogee router bit too, |

So, I was perusing Dave K's site at www.VectorCut.com and nosing around in all the various categories ... and this set of HO ornamental trim (Set #1 "Aunt Lucy's) caught my eye because ...

I'm leaning toward something like this boxed cornice for the storefront and the "running trim" (top rows) in that set looked awfully similar to the gingerbread-y bits on this store ... (oh, and never mind that I'll have my hands full making THOSE funky corbels!) [:-blindfold]

Had a suspicion that the HO gingerbread would work out nicely as smaller trim in 1/35 and sure enough, it looks like the parts will play well with the construction underway! (The mustard color corner trim is new ... trying to keep things rolling with little bits of progress here and there.)

While corresponding with Dave about the corbels, he mentioned that he could easily zap some nice little dentil trim to fit between them. Those arrived today along with the HO gingerbread and they'll add another nice layer of detail to the cornice underway ...
So, on with the cornice work and a big THANK YOU to "VectorDave" for his continued great service and willingness to provide those little custom bits. Gonna go back now and order some of the HO/multi-scale flowers so I can put a little flower box under Millie's kitchen window. [:-apple] |

Layering the dentil trim ...

These pieces will be painted with the mustard trim color ...

The center or background piece will all be painted green, including the inset/raised panels ... with a little highlighting and shadow there just to bring out the relief ...

Playing "fiddle sticks" with all the loose bits. Top lip, corbels and dentil trim will all get the mustard color ... the background "panel" will be green. |

Big THANKS to all for the recent comments and the on-going help and encouragement! All this crazy business of treating every little bit separately, nailing things, etc. DOES make it slow-going. For example, the corner trim pieces have smaller "finishing nails" which almost disappear, but do produce what should be a nice subtle effect on the finished model ... more close-ups later ...
Really nice to get to one of these points where you can "start to see" things coming together ... now on to layering color onto all these little bits ... [:-blindfold] |
