Ha Ha!!!!
I love your work Troels!!!
It was never a serious criticism as I doubt I could build stuff to this standard myself but I had a small niggle in the background that all the lettering on the layout would start to look very samey as time went on which AFAIK would not have been the case in real life. Looking back through the original thread I can see that you are indeed varying the lettering styles so I am at peace now!!!!
Keep up the great work and I always look forward to my notifications that more comments have been left on this thread - it really is one of the very best on the net at the moment (and I belong to quite a few around the planet). |

Ian, you're most kind! Speaking of fonts... the aforementioned Mr. Püterschein is not my invention, but the alter ego of a very flamboyant eccentric called W.A. Dwiggins. He was a font designer and marionette artist... he invented the modern natural movement mechanisms in marionettes, like the puppets in Being John Malkowitch. In 1930 he hand-texted and illustrated a lovely little book called Marionettes in Motion, with the most exquisite use of fonts (and I'm very lucky to have a copy...)... I'll post a copy of a page to enjoy when I get around to it.... |

Troels, Your work continues to amaze me. You should produce and market a DVD (or a series of them) illustrating your structure and painting techniques. Even though you've described them in your threads, some of us need to see things step by step to fully grasp them. Or if you are feeling altruistic, you can post them on YouTube for free. Either way I'd own them all. |

Troels,
This may not be one of your biggest projects, but have to say I like it as much if not more than the others. Heck of a lot of character in a small package. Very nice.

The finishing touches... for now of course... there's a lot of detailing potential in front of this workshop later on. A sign, wheel, and mr. Whistler himself lighting a fag after a long day's work.

Troels, that is a great looking building, the weathering really has that rough coast line look.

Great little structure Troels, wonderfully painted. Mr Whistler is a great figure, did you 'adjust' him for the pose.
As a side note I'd mention to him to be carefull of the slang he uses, especially on this side of 'the pond'. When I first got here (US) I left a room at a birthday gathering by announcing " I'm just headed outside to have a quick a fag "..... I got some worried looks from several people.

I was about to say the same thing.. for this side of the pond. "going out for a smoke" works.

You guys make me smile , We love and watch a couple of BBC comedes on Saturday nite. So I know what you mean about terminology.
Another Troels Master Piece. I love you wagon wheel sign. So appropriate so simple to make. The pully and rope adds just the right touch.
I can't wait to see what you have up sleeve. |

Troels, the weathered and faded look of the boards on this latest build is off the charts. Wonderful!

well in the uk most hear "fag" as a smoke, unless your in brighton, then it can pretty much mean what some would think :D
cearful use of words in the gay capital is something to keep in mind hahah
i really like this building, i love the faded writing on the side. |

I've assembled and painted the petrol pump and some related junque that arrived yesterday, and placed them, the new wheelwright shop plus mr. Whistler and his smoke in the layout.
The row of structures is now very harmonious to my eyes, with a couple of good focal points to rest the eyes on. Teal's cove will only get the odd outhouse and shed further on... no more structures... The weavery to the left and Olson's Wool on the right frames this cozy little village's cluster of structures well.
And come spring, I'll transform all that ugly plaster and cardboard into scenery and shrubbery! Promise!!
I know the colors are a bit whacky... I have changed to warm white fluos (which s so much more pleasng to the eyes, and forgot to make a white balance adjustment... even with heavy photoshopping it was impossible to get everything right... but you get the right impression anyhow.

As they say in Australia - noice!!!!
I never realised that Singer Sargent's was so close to the backdrop. Lotsa shrubbery I guess.
With the spring comes the snow thaw too - that will get rid of all the white stuff still lying there. |
