Sound decoder installed. The layout is coming alive, but I had a near disaster. See my blog for all the details.

At MIT we had a saying, school work expands to fill all available time and space. Perhaps the same is true for model RRs. After thinking about my Aquia Landing scene and not being happy with how cramped it was, I decided to expand. This involved hiring some contractots to tear out the existing closet and some patching of holes etc. That work is now compete and I started building benchwork for the new expansion. My early fears about the expansion destroying the "esthetic" of the media room were unfounded. So work will progress at full speed for this new section. Here is a photo showing a mock-up of the main wharf, called Yuba Dam, on the USMRR. The paper sheet is a full size drawing of the paddle wheel steamer slated for that location. That sucker is big.

Here is the latest draft of the track plan. If you want to compare this to earlier drafts plans, or to see more pictures, visit http://www.usmrr.blogspot.com

It's called "Parkinson's Law", and it doesn't originate at MIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkinson%27s_Law

(This is the same guy who wrote a biography of Horatio Hornblower, a pretty interesting guy...)

I didn't claim it was invented at MIT, just that it applied there. And in my layout too!
The real question is (and to bring back on topic), what will the next expansion be? A helix to the living room?

Where did you put your computers, etc? Or am I mis-remembering your basement space?

The door to the right of Burnside Wharf opens to my office.
The open area to the right is the TV room and is not available for layout expansion.

OK... You could run a spur off the wharf into your office :-)

I really like your new plan. It looks good but then the photo you have posted shows just how large it will be!
