Scott,
I like what you have done with the Donkey. I'm always looking for ways to cut costs when modeling. The casting looks great and it did not set you back an arm and a leg. I wish we could find more items that could be modified and spruced up for not too much money. I here your city scene is really looking good these days. Any chance you could post some pictures of the buildings and skyline?

Hi Scott,

Nice effort on the scene. Like Randy, I had been considering purchasing that casting for a trackside mini-scene. Think I'll do 'er!

As an aside, I have been experimenting with your suggestions on siding and roofing per your wharf, and it sure isn't as easy as you make it sound :O).

Keep up the good work and send some updated photos of the wharf in conjunction with the other modules if you get time.

Rick

I just got back from visiting the Sturges Lumber Mill in Sepastapol, CA. Wow, what a great experience to see a working lumber mill that started in the late 1800's and still is in operation today. They even had a working donkey engine that has helped me understand how it operates and where all that piping goes (mine is more for show that actual correct piping. The docent also clarified a lot of questions regarding yarding that I was unable to glean from pictures and books. If you get the chance, i suggest you check out the mill.

Rick: Regarding your attempt at using paper textures, perhaps you can elaborate at the trouble you a having. Perhaps I can help. It may be one of those things where I am underestimating the ease of use because I am so familiar with the technique. If you like, you can contact me directly via my email, see my website (www.scottrobertsonon30.com) - at the bottom is an email link.

Thanks for the input guy's!, Scott

A few pictures of the "finished" log yarding scene I described earlier under construction. I "planted" the donkey and added cables and assorted trash. This was a fun little build, typical of many other "changes" I am sure to make to the rest of my railroad....as time goes by....... Scott

I just found this FREE book source listed on another forum site. These are scanned books that are a part of Google books. The one linked is all about logging. It is like a how to guide to build and run a logging operation. Pretty interesting reading. You can read on line or down load PDF files. Check it out.

Scott,
Thanks for the heads up on this awesome source. I've seen this book for sale at a much higher price than free.
There are a lot of answers in this document for logging minded modelers.
Nice job on the Donkey as well.

Hey Scott...

What are you planning to do to "finish" your town. It looked pretty complete to me. New secrets to reveal?
