I received an email regarding how I created my short passenger cars. If interested, I have included the quick sketch study "how to" I sent Dave T. It is pretty brief, but I think the major points are identified. Hope this helps. Scott

That's why I bought a laptop. I just turned the Lappie on it's side and the instructions were fantastic.
Scott, Thanks for the how to.

I just received my new Articulated engine from Bachmann. Wow! It runs like a charm and looks great pulling a string of cars down the hill. Anyway....I want to remove the lettering on the tender. Is there a good way of doing this without etching the plastic or the existing paint. Omn the passenger cars I just sanded it off with wet sand paper. However, I repainted those cars. I may repaint the tender, or I may just weather/paint over the existing. Any ideas?? Scott

While fixing a damaged trestle for a friend, I decided to experiment and enhance the look by adding Nut/bolt/washer detail. I decided to try Troels technique of cutting solder and gluing to black cover-stock paper. However, I found it difficult to get a clean non-angled cut and to hold the little piece of solder while gluing. So I searched out another alternative and found a package of flat backed clear plastic stick-on jewels at a local craft store. Once I got the hang of sliding the jewel off of the plastic back the remaining glue residue allowed me to use an xacto knife to hold while I put a dab of glue on an already placed square of "plating" (paper). The following are pictures of the results. The first picture shows the solder method above the jewel method. The jewels cost about $2.29 per package of 192 jewels. All in all I think the results are satisfactory, especially when viewed from a normal distance. While not contest quality I think both methods work well. Something else to try! Scott

Scott, a neat variation to my solder! I cut the solder in very thin slices with an xacto chisel blade, and bring them to the glue dot on the "washer" on the point of a #11 blade. I agree this is super-realism, but it works very well in real life...

Scott, I gave my wife a new ring for our 32nd anniversary this year. I made it using the jewels you used for the trestle. She wasn't pleased. She sure is particular.

Nice job, Scott, and a nice imagination to find unusual uses for non model railroad goodies.

I finally got back around to working on the "Frendly Mine" complex (Fred C. Dobbs, Superintendent - make sure to have your badges ready to enter the area). The work is about 90% done. I plan to add a water tank near the top of the structure, a few more trees, and various other signs/detailing. Sorry the pictures are a little "warm", I was shooting at night under the "house" lights only. I also included a picture of the repainted combine. Scott

Very nice, Scott...I love the mine and the short combine. The Friendly Mining Company sounds like a bad place to trespass... ;o)
