Brian, nice progress. Ops session, I'd love to but you're just a little too far away. |

Brian-
For someone who is itching to start structures and scenery, you already seem to have a good start at both [:-thumbu]. I would love to see your layout and run a few trains. But right now I am totally tied up with trying to get my On30 modules ready for the MER Convention in Hagerstown. Building modules has accelerated the construction cycles so I have been able to do some scenery and structure building, even though they are still down the road a ways for my home layout.
After the Convention on October 15-18, I would be interested in a trip to Blacksburg. I was just up at my parent's home near Galax a few weeks ago, but only had time for a short stop in Radford on the way.
Hope to see the Deer Creek & Laurel soon,

Tom,
I've ben following your progress but silently........keep posting progress. Looks great!
Mark, you have an invitation to stop by and run trains whenever you are in the area. Just let me have some advance warning. Looks like your railroad is comming together well.
Thanks for all the nice comments. For those too far away, if you are heading to the NG convention in Hickory, NC in 2011, your welcome to stop by. Maybe have a small operating session or open layout.

I felt challenged to try and match with MR. Sullivan's progress on his Gauley River Rwy (On30 posting), so here's the latest scenery work. Just ground cover so far, no trees, bushes, etc.
Here's the train on a fill between cuts:

Going over the bridge:

Through the cut:

Empty log train climbing the switchback:

Thinking of an opt's session/open house November 14th or 15th if anyone is interested. Blacksburg, VA. Will pick the day with the most interst.

Brian Very nice progress on the layout. I'm with Rick; love to make an OPS session but a bit far to drive and be back home for work the next morning. Thanks for the offer. Peter |

Looks like you are making good progress Brian, might get out that way one of these days. I usually have to find someone headed in the same direction as me.

Brian, I am in Charlotte NC so I could drive up for the ops day. I have an ON3 porter that was converted from a Bachmann porter I have been itching to try out on more than 2 feet of test track. Please keep me posted. |

Mark and Larry,
Looks like the ops session is on for Sunday the 15th. There's a train show in Bluefield, WV on Saturday and others can't make it then.
Still working out the details.
Here's what I have so far:
-Welcome and Introductions (bring a model and show it) -Introduction to the Deer Creek and Laurel -Short slide show on the prototype inspirations (Big Sandy & Cumberland, Valley River , and the Laurel Ry) -Operation session -Wrap up
I'm limited on operators since my SB3 is out of service and I don't think the new on will arrive prior to the session. We'll see. Bring your loco, I assume that its DCC?
Mark, my brother is in Herndon. Next time I'm in the area maybe we can get together. Your welcome to come if you can get a ride (Bring someone with you!)
Cheers!
Brian

Hello Brian,
All of your work so far is coming together very nicely. The layout you have shown us definitely has that special (and elusive) narrow-gauge-east-of-the-Rockies feel to it! I like it.

Hey Brian, thanks for the invite, doen't look like I'll be able to make it. Not driving right now and don't know of anyone headed that way. Give me a PM next time you head to NoVa and I'll give you some info.

Thanks to Clint, Mark and Wayland for comming up for the Operations Session/Open house. It was great to finally meet Mark a Railroad-line, On30 forum contributor.
I think for the inaugural operations session things went well. Of course, I have a few minor changes to make for the next session. Here are some photos:
Here's clint bringing in the daily coal train to Collins

Here's Clint and Wayland working out the Southbound passernger/milk run and the northbound mixed out of Laurel.

Here's Mark working the morning log train.
