Dave,

I'm glad to see that the Brookside car has made it all the way to Millinocket, Maine. Nice pics.

I was driving on the main town road in Essex, CT as I was chasing NX33 from Middletown south to New Haven, CT. I spotted the train train in Deep River headed southward on the Valley Branch. I pulled across from the Essex station near the Pratt & Reid Co. siding.

Emerging from the tunnel portal( ok work with me on this, it's not done) was NX33 pulled by RS2 #0513 long hood forward as is New Haven RR practice.

Right behind the engines were a couple of Stauffer Chemical Co. tank cars headed back to Los Angeles, CA. They have come from the Hartford Rayon Co. in Dividend,CT, via Middletown and must be destined for a Chicago bound train. NH will car float them from the Bronx, NY to the other side of the river for a connection with the PRR.

I had to shake my head and rub my eyes for these next series of shots. Not one but TWO Saybrook Northern cars in the same train! And they were coupled together no less!!! The train was slowing so I wondered where they might be spotted. NX33 works Essex on it's way back to New Haven.

I snapped another photo of the duo as the train slowed to a stop on the main.

The SBN boxcar was uncoupled from the CN box. NX33 was a short 6 car train today and only runs on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Both cars were going to be spotted right where I was standing as the brakeman had me move off the track out of the way. I asked if would be OK to take some photos. He said sure as many as I wanted. New Haven employees were always friendly. Pratt & Reid Co. makes and supplies piano keys to the Steinway & Sons Piano Co. in New York. Here is a shot of both Saybrook Northern cars on the siding. They really must be clean on the inside as that reefer is pretty dirty on the outside.

All in all it was a pretty good photo day on the New Haven.

Some fine looking pictures Bill. In fact, to quote Hawkeye Pierce, I would say they are finest-kind.

As the interchange season nears it's end I just wanted to say not only how much I have enjoyed the cars that have shown up on the interchange track each month, but also all of the great pictures and stories everyone has posted. I can not wait for next years interchange. In fact I have already picked out the car which will be making it's way from Maine around the country -

I will have all winter to find some little lobsters to go with it. The car is from the Eastern Maine Model Railroad Club. They do a run of cars every now and then and offer them for sale.

Dave, I have two seafood loving boys, so I hope the lobsters are good and fresh when they make it to Illinois!

I am working on something seriously special for the last interchange car that is currently visiting. I can't let anything out of the bag as yet, in case my plan does not come to fruition. But if it does, I anticipate much excitement from the masses!

Ummm. . . Bruce? Would you consider changing the routing of next year's Interchange so I can have a shot at the Lobstah before it's gone? [:-bigeyes2]

Lets see, Pete. The way the routing goes now, I would get the lobsters first, right?[:-eyebrows]

Bruce,

Under the current routing you would get the lobstah before I do, but at least you'd share it with me, right? [:-bigeyes2]

Waiting on pin and needles to see how the two hooligans get back to Maine. Last I remember they were doing the two foot shuffle somewhere out west.

Phil,

I think the boys have been being held incommunicado out in the hinterlands.
