Bill,
Thanks for the comments, but I am not following them. Are you refering to this building? (the one in the black circle) as being out of scale to the 3-D ones?

It does seem to over power the others. Should I enlarge the next grouping?

Tom, You think that I have my horizon line too high? I need to lower it? Tilt the whole drawing so the back is lower? Maybe I should have removed the hill side so that it wouldn't had influenced the perspective.

Tom, It is too grey, Think I want a more washed out white. Nice colour though.

Yep, I'm youger than you so I can still play with crayons Noticed that I still can't stay in the lines

Phil, to me it looks like you're forcing the perspective a bit hard. As a suggestion perhaps try lowering the angle of the circled building and yes, dropping the horizon line a bit.

I really enjoy your work, Phil.

Okay, Made a new drawing. raised the hotel up a little and lowered the horizon a little. I also changed the second building a little.

I had also draped the hill with plaster cloth and when I set it in place realized that it was way too high. Cut off a good inch and covered it again, much better.

here is the new drawing, I left the crayons in their box.

This is much better, tilt it down some more?

Thanks again, for looking and commenting, much appreciated

Do You like It? It looks better to me. It should blend in real good with a few trees and bushes to break the transition from the "table top" to the background.

Looks a lot better there Phil. The little hill in the corner is a good idea but I liked the patch of trees and grass. Might look better when I see it in person but you might be beyond that point by the time I get back down to your place. Carry on. Tom

Bob, yes, I like this one much better. Like you said, some trees/bushes on the hillside would hide the transition.

Tom, The hill will have trees and grass, instead of being flat will be a hillside. Is this better?

I don't know how the trees all lined up wasn't trying to do so.
Sent our sister the 2 attempts and she was happier with the 2nd. She thinks I need more buildings which I probabily need. Just not knowing how to add or have them look. This is not suppose to be a Big Town. I am thinking that they would be mostly hidden by the two front buildings anyways.
Need to figure out how to transfer this to the wall.

How is the turnout and E.H. install going on the Kill Creek? need pictures

As I had stated in my shay rebuild thread in the roundhouse forum, the MRC decoder that I had installed in my MDC shay went bust, so I installed a Micro Tsunami. It is installed and working just not as slow as I would like. Need to do more tweaking. She will pull at least 7 box cars up the 2.5% grade out of Swampscott with nary a slip. The B'man 0-6-0t will only pull 4 box cars with difficulty up the hill.

I am now working on my Bachmann 3 truck shay. This is detailed in the DCC forum. I am installing an ESU LOK sound unit with the 100ohm speaker. Here are a couple of pics of it in the tender, still need to wire it up.

Then I wasted some time playing around with the last drawing I did for the "Town corner" in the paint program. Moved the church closer, made the house a little bigger. removed the little house on the curve. Then I went a little wild with the paint brush and airbrush options. See what you think of this [:-eyebrows]

Like I said just playing around.
Later,

Thanks for the update. I have always liked your trackplan and have enjoyed watching this come together.

I have a question about the lights in the room. I never took note of them before but wanted to ask if you had the room on a separate breaker. It looks like you have halogen bulbs in your track lights as I do. I was worried about the power drain as I am expanding my layout and will go from 2 sets of 4 lights to 5. I tried out some new LED bulbs because they use much less wattage but they are expensive and have a hum. Do you think if I stayed with halogen and was drawing 1000 watts from 20 halogen lights that would be a problem without having a dedicated circuit breaker?

Bryan,
The install of my lites is here:
http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=20241 or, bottom of page 20 here in the Construction forum.
But to make it short, yes, I do have the track lights on a separate circut. I have them then split into 4 dimmable circuts. There are 27 GU-10 50w floods total. I will be changing these down to 35w bulbs as the 50's are a bit too bright on high.

Tyson,
Thanks for the thumbs up. You do know that this last picture I opened with "Paint" on a copy of the picture and then played around.

After returning from Kill Creek, CC's ground crew got busy and moved some dirt. They filled in the area between the tracks and Coates. All the way from the bottom of the hill and pass the depot. Picture of the area right after the final wet down.

I changed the backdrop drawing to match what I did in the photoshopped pic above. The little house in front still needs to be a little bigger and the flat building roofline needs corrected.

I cut out some templates for the RR crossing. Felt that the left side needed to angle off more to the left so added a little more there.

After the ground goop dried stuck the buildings back and checked the view and decided that I did not like the middle mt. So, which is better?
this?

or this?

and so it continues....
Thanks for looking and commenting,

Hi, All: an update:
Since I wasn't having any luck finding a decal in white I had this [:-bulb] idea. Why not have some stamps made and use them to stamp the paint on the cars sides. So, $23.00 later I have 3 stamps; a logo stamp one with the CCLC reporting marks, and the 3rd is a 3 digit number stamp for car numbers.

First expirment was spreading a thin layer of Polly Scale Reefer White on a piece of black foam board. Pressed the logo stamp in this and then on the car side. Pressed the reporting mark stamp on the paint and low & behold the paint has dried enough so that the stamp wouldn't pick any up, had to repaint another thin layer.
Here is the first expirment results:

So, I started wondering if there is a better way. So, stopped by Michaels to see if there is something better. Talked to one of the sales people about what I was trying to do. Here are the samples that we came up with:

1) the "Glue Pad" is an empty pad that we thought I could fill with either paint or ink instead of the glue.

2) the "Pigment Ink Pad" already has the white ink

3) a bottle of white ink

4) the "purple foam pad" that might hold the paint/ink better than the foam board.

5) and the piece of black foam board.

So now the expirments proceed. Results later.

Phil, your rubber stamp idea is very innovative. I'm interested in seeing how the new supplies you bought will improve what your did on your first try.

Thankyou George, I painted a piece of evergreen scribed siding with boxcar red so that I'm not testing on the car. Letting that dry so I can go ahead and try the options. I was hoping that the pad in the glue pad could be cut in half so I could make two pads with a diveder glued between but it is glued in place. I would then use one half for the ink and paint. Will see if I can separate it anyway.

Stay tuned for more.
