Dave,
I think that's the same car that I looked at for some of my inspiration to build my backsmith car!
Looks good what you did to it! |

It took me awhile but I finally realized that I did not post a picture of what that unfinished tool & water car looked like after it was completed.

| Oddly shaped, but a very nice car, Martin. |

Absolutely outstanding, Martin! [:-thumbu] I find the idea of board-by-board construction very appealing myself. I'm a sucker for MW cars, too. [:-eyebrows] Here's an Sn3 tool car that I put together from a Rio Grande Models kit. She'll look good 'in the weeds'.

It does seem somewhat oddly proportioned as opposed to the unfinished version a page or 2 back - it may be more related to the camera angles between the 2 pictures? Looks very reasonable in person,
In any case, I think I'll build yet another just for the fun of it as soon as I get a few other projects off my bench.
Been putting that exercise off for too long! |

Well, I finally got around to it and found a square foot or so to work on another project that I don't have the time for so I'm getting back into building MoW cars......except I'm building 2 in parallel that will be slightly different from each other and 1 of them on commission.....I once again accepted a commission to build a car and will continue to live to regret that, but whatever....
So, I need another tool & water car like a bad case of athelete's foot, but I never got one of the old Walther's O scale Tool & Water car kits when I was a lad or even an old phart, so it's scratchbuilding time.........

Got 2 basic frames assembled with the train line installed all w/o gluing any fingers together; used some fo my scribed on both sides scribed siding, too....... Trip to Home Depot plumbing aisle - lots of useful stuff in there! |

Here's what you do with that plumbing pipe...

Bands on those are soldered to size and slipped over the wood and pushed into place using a screwdriver; no glue holding these on! |

| Excellent work on those bands. What was your secret to getting them to size and holding them while soldering? |

No secret - I have a huge barrel of pixie dust in my shop,
Ok, being O scale I just wrap the band around the barrel and cut it close to length and then just nibble & file it to be very tight holding it by hand.
Then I just clamp a short bit of excess band to the outer surface of one end with a hemostat, put the hemostat in a clamp, and then bring the other end around to close the hoop and clamp it in place with a 2nd hemostat.
A drop of Ruby Flux, a touch of the torch, some 0.015" solder and it's together. A round file on the interior and a flat file on the outside and it's ready to be slipped on the barrel.
Compresses the wood just a bit getting it on at first and then it slides to position with a screwdriver on the edge. |

Nice and precise work, Martin. The model should have an interesting shape, again.

Well, managed to get a bit of headway on building this car up to the point of even creating a pseudo-clone....

Well, I finally got around to wrapping up ~95% of the topside of both cars; still a few handles for the bins, but they are on order (part of another project).
Now it's time to flip them over and go to work on the dark underbelly o each of these cars,
