Ay Caramba, Verne ... keep an eye on the road along Chase Creek. The locals are not much into installing guard rails.
You're new plan should add a lot of vertical separation, drama, and also some run length to the branchline trains. The coke operation will add interest as well.
Looking good,

The Coronado Railroad picture is a real great source for inspiration, Verne. If I may make a suggestion (and not even knowing if the thing is possible), I think you might try to leave a little more space behind the climbing track (not more than 1 or 1 1/2 inch) so as to make some vertical scenery behind it since I think that one of the most dramatic features of the Coronado pic is this series of "walls" behind the track and road, be they natural or man made (or a mix of both). |

Gracias, amigos. Here is an updated track plan:

Mark, the citizens of my little world lead charmed lives, and don't have many accidents...at least, none that they cause! I admit to some operating errors related to train handling that have left a less than perfect safety record. No need to worry the investors with more details than they need to know!
Chris, a very interesting railroad indeed!
Frederic, I will have scenery behind the switchback in some places, and a painted backdrop here and there to present open vistas to the viewer. My challenge will be to avoid building the Retaining Wall Central railroad! I hope to have a variety of scenery, with the emphasis on the corners bracketing Sonora Grande. The area around the Sonador Mine should be fun to do, as will the three tunnel portals. I am considering a short rock bore along the switchback below the Sonador Mine to add a bit more interest.
I have always wanted to do some overhead electric line, so I have added a short stretch that is electrified between the hidden staging and a spur ducking under the branch line in Sonora Grande. I have some catenaries that are awaiting some electric critters to go under them! |

Nice modification of your plan, Verne. About the Retaining Wall Central, as I told you, even the natural "wall" (maybe I should say "cliff") above the road in the inspiration pic you posted on page 8 is worth being modelled... |

Thanks guys...
I have modified the trackplan posted above to reflect some changes following an offline conversation with Quarryman. Mark suggested alternatives for locating the smelter leads where they would have some potential for offline staging. I decided to locate the smelter at one end of the lower level hidden staging, making Sonora Grande the terminus of the AV&W, where it interchanges with the E&SG. The spur ducking under the branch line could connect to an interchange with a small mining outfit south of the border, using electrified power. Que bueno. Gracias, amigo! |

I have added a page explaining the concept of the railroad, which has conveniently evolved as my planning criteria and track plan have changed over time. It includes a map of the area served by the E&SG:

GREAT NEWS! Glad that's working out for you ... I was dumbfounded when I did my first DCC hookup. Couldn't believe how easy it is.
