| Hi Verne, just spent some time reviewing your new website...very nice. I liked the way you layed it out....easy to get around and really nice quality photos. (you and Mark are Mac guys and your sites have that "special" Mac look to them!) I enjoyed going through your decoder install...I have a couple of smaller locos that will need similar work done and you've given me a great guide....thanks. I too will be bookmarking this site and checking in on your progress....sully |

Again, thank you for your comments...my aim was to provide something to interest any modeler, from beginner to advanced. I hope to add a lot more to come. I wanted the user experience to be easy and enjoyable.
The Concept and Virtual Tour sections are still waiting for content, and I need to reload some of the photo links on this thread that were necessarily broken to make room for the new site. I am missing the workbench! |

Verne, I missed the post with the revised site; I like what you did. The plywood on the side of the Porter is very well done. Larry |

Thanks, Larry. I had fun playing with the textures using photo software.
As of tonight, there is only one lame 'This page is under construction' statement to be found on the site. I added content to the last two empty pages, including a fairly accurate track plan and a map of the region modeled in the Concept section. I am still learning about this software, and getting used to the Mac. It is pretty easy software to work with, I was able to build 16 pages of content since loading the authoring software Friday night. All that remains is the virtual tour, which will take some time to prepare.
I am now going to return to trains for a while, I miss them! |

Jim, when you edit a post, even an older one, the forum adds it to the active topics.

| Per Frederic's response, I had updated some broken photo lnks (image files I incorporated into my new website). Those edits bumped the thread. |

| Thanks, Duane. I can't exhibit the layout publicly, so this is another avenue through which I can share the layout. The site layout and navigation are mostly from pre-packaged themes that are virtually idiot proof, which just goes to show I can follow simple instructions and get it right after several attempts! I had to re-author the site in Mac-compatible software to keep it up to date, my old desktop PC died in October and I had to use my son's laptop to push updates to my old site. I'm just glad it's up now, and I can return to the workbench as soon as 1:1 responsibilities allow. |

Well, after a hiatus from modeling, I finally have had time to return to the workbench.

Here's the station at San Lorenzo, with some progress. I have trial-fit the windows, and added a panel of Plastruct O scale Spanish tile roofing. While the separations between tile sections are not as crisp as I would like, it will do. I like this building enough to move it forward next to the pump house. Since it was originally planned to be a background structure, it will eventually be replaced with a more detailed structure when time allows. The effect of the tile is really nice, and I hope to hide the vacuum-formed look with careful finishing.
There will be a small platform of paving brick around the station with a few benches for passengers and other details. The figure and locomotive are to help gauge the proportions of the building, and it looks right to me.
I think, after a half dozen attempts at arranging buildings in the town, that I have the final arrangement for San Lorenzo. From left foreground clockwise are the cantina, carneceria (meat market), mission, mercantile and grocery. The mission is represented by blocks of florist foam in the approximate dimensions, minus the decorative wall extensions that will be added to the upper perimiter.
Here's the plan for the mission. It is loosely based on the Spanish Colonial missions found in Sonora, including Cocospera. I have lots of details gathered for the project, and am really looking forward to building the mission! |
