Good solution to the Black Hole, Rick![:-thumbu]
Now, as for ballasting, RUN, don't walk, to the nearest paint or hardware store and get one of the little paint edgers as shown in Tim's Greatest Tips.
Here is the link to the description on how to use it.
http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3885&whichpage=10
I couldn't find the exact one that Tim used, but I found a similar one, which works great (the red one). I also use the foam brush to tidy up the ballast, but the paint edger does 99% of the work.

Since I have switched to Tim's 'Tools and Technique', ballasting track has become much, much, much easier. I have never looked back. |

Well, how in the heck did I miss that tip on ballasting! I'm still using a 1/2 inch paint brush. Thanks Bruce.
Rick, I think that was a hint too. |

| Bruce...thanks for the reminder; I did try Tim's method the last time on some mainline ballasting and it works like a proverbial charm....now all I have to do is FIND that darn brush...it's around here somewhere! |

Rick,
I spent some quality time looking through your thread for some pics to include in last months Photo Gallery.
http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=35733&whichpage=14
99 (soon to break 100) pages of great "futzing" intermixed with some good natured "South Jersey Banter". I enjoyed looking back a bit. |

Thanks for the props, Bruce...who would have ever guessed Mark and Steam were right when they kept pestering me "to post something"? They, along with the rest of my motley crew deserve a LOT of the credit too. It still amazes me that we're reaching 100 pages...who'da ever thunk the "Seven Miles of Sheer Hell Route" had that much staying power???
Question: do the threads end at 100 pages? Not that there's anything to post of late, but do I need to start another one if the muse strikes?

You know, I just took some time to look back as well and it gave me quite a few chuckles. Sometimes when we are building a large layout, we get so focused on what we are doing at the moment, we lose sight of what we have accomplished. This thread is a great example of looking back, reading the 'thoughts of the moment' and see how the layout and concept evovled.
Knowing Rick as well as I do, and having been part of this project for a long long time, it amazes me to see how much he has accomplished, and how well he accomplished it. |

| Rick, there is no rule or technical reason to stop at page 100 and start another one. That is strictly up to you. Searching back through longer threads is the only reason why some members stop there. |

I kind of like it all in one thread. It was suggested to me that I put all my posts for my layout progress in one thread. I think you should not give it another thought and just keep posting! |

Mark: As I frequently point out, the present day HTRR is the result of MANY efforts, not just one. Between Steam, yourself, and the unique group of railroading lunatics who make it come to life every eight weeks, it's been an enjoyable trip these past few years. My posting has slowed a bit, but that's to be expected, I suppose...I mean, how many times can I post a picture of Matt munching on the op session snacks?
Bill...I kinda/sorta agree with your sentiments, although at times worry that all the pictures, which are currently stored on a Photobucket account, might someday go "poof" without warning, rendering 99 pages practically useless.
And to everyone who's ever checked in: thanks for your continued interest! |

Rick, another reason why we encourage members to upload their picture right onto the Forum. |

Rick,
I save all of my images on an external hard drive, and as soon as I can upgrade to a new computer with sufficient excess internal hard drive memory, I'm going to subscribe to one of the online backup services. Also, periodically, I save my own thread as a .pdf file, using rr-line's printer-friendly save function. That way, if rr-line should ever go "poof," I'll have a record of everthing I've posted on the B&SGE.
And, as one who frequently checks in on your thread, thanks for being here. It's a two way street, this forum.

| Well, you learn something new everyday! Vagel, I never knew you could do that! That's very cool! So much good information here that would be nice to have a copy of 'offline'. Now I know how! |
