Matthew...are you seriously suggesting that I just callously throw Steam under the bus? What kind of person do you think I am?

Wait...hold on a sec...it COULD work, couldn't it? LOL

Gentlemen: thanks for the excellent suggestions, but I'm a firm believer in the old saying: "Discretion is the better part of valor". Before sticking my head out of the proverbial foxhole, we need to find out if the "behind the coke works backdrop" concept that Mark alluded to will actually work...I have my doubts since it would mean reconfiguring the ENTIRE track arrangement at Commonwealth, something I'm not a big fan of. IF we can squeeze everything in without needing a mouse hole in the stair riser, then it'll be a slam dunk...otherwise, I'll have to resort to Plan B:

"Honestly, dear...I had JUST turned my back for less than a minute when the saw started up..."

A quick picture to better explain the problem: this is an end shot of the Commonwealth peninsula, which currently is stub-ended. The plan is to veer off the aisle side with a track that will loop around a yet-to-be-constructed lobe, then run back towards the staging yard in the space shown here between the back of the ovens on the right and the existing backdrop on the left.

Easy, right? Look closer, specifically further back. The existing track you see is the lead for switching the tar loading tracks, which could possibly be moved a little closer to the ovens but notice that the spur tracks it's connected to are VERY close to the existing backdrop...which means they would have to be ripped out <clutching my chest with angina>.

Ralph...any specific suggestions as to the diamond size?

Ok, heres an old trick I have used in the past.
Go ahead a cut the hole, but dont say anything about it. See how long it takes her to notice.

Then when she finally says something about it, say something like "that has been there for years"

You could always send her to a spa for an hour right before you break the "good news".

Has worked for me in the past, she is in such a good mood she isn't really listening.

Later when she questions you on it, you can plead you already told her.

BTW only use for large CEO approval factors needs, not a new loco.

You know, you laugh, but that's EXACTLY what Steam did to me! One night near the end of a work session, I suddenly hear a saw running. I run around the corner to see a saw blade ripping through my stair riser! Well, that decision was made and there was no going back!

Ok now,
You know you are going to cut the hole.
and you know you are going to get into trouble for it.
So just suck it up and get it over with and move on to the next project.

Ok, going against the grain here,, Not in favor of using the stairs nor the loop. I suspect there may be another solution before getting out the saws,,,

Hey guys - how about extending the current RDG stub track. Steam can pre-fab a new shelf behind the heater as the new line rises to the area above staging

Andy: Thanks for that vote of confidence...not! LOL

Red P: Probably, but why not at least enjoy the process?

Joe: do you have something in mind?

Bob: Please don't give the man any more suggestions! ROFLMAO

Rick, If you plan is have another branch out over the staging I would relook at the curved turnout that goes into Commonwealth. I think there could be room there. Suggest looking there to just extend that track straight into the staging araea. (Would need to go over the new siding with the fertilzer plant). If you can find a location along theat back end of the track it would be much better...

Cheers!, Joe

Wow, lot's of good ideas here! But poor Rick. Now here's a guy who has a hard time deciding which side of the bed to get out of in the morning!

Looks like it's time for a visit from the B&F (Steam and I) Planning and Implementation team! We will see you tonight - with tools in hand! Stand back! [:-eyebrows]

Joe, That was plan A but the 4 inch soil pipe made us go with plan B, I said cut the pipe out and build an out house in the back yard but that got shot down. So its on to B but there could be a C!
