Glad to see you back, Rick. Things have been somewhat mojo-starved on the B&SGE this Summer, too. But we're sluffing along. Misery loves company!

| You've been energetic compared to me, Vagel....I guess I just needed a break and the arrival of summer reinforced that. It's difficult to retreat downstairs to the basement when the weather outside is so nice ( I detest winter). The other thing that is becoming more and more apparent is that a larger layout requires a fair amount of "no fun" maintenance time, something I've most definitely NOT been in the mood to deal with lately. I've been telling the crew that Harsco is going through a shutdown to re-line and refurbish the blast furnace just like the prototype would do every several years, so hopefully that will stave things off for a while longer...LOL. |

Hey Rick, even a reline requires alot of traffic, lining bricks, refuse removal, the BOF would still be running on scrap and ingots and some hot metal from the electric furnace. The rolling mills would still rolll with what tstock they have on hand and the stock piles would be refilled as summmer is thwee time to get oree down from the lakes. Or you could say the unions are on strike, that could last for months. Anyway just have fun.

| I like Mark's suggestion! We need to still get supplies to the mills and get the finished product out to the customers! WE WANT TO OPERATE! |

Oh, yeah, I know what you mean. Seems like I just finish troubleshooting a glitch, and something completely new crops up. |

Hey Rick, you know I did say the mill workers can be out on strike, put up the picket lines and the strike shacks. Or the companyt could have a lock-out.[:-eyebrows]

Rick, there is another option for Harsco.
The industry goes through many booms and busts. In a year like 1945 the mills run 24 hours a day and never catch up with the orders. 1978 the industry is shuttering mills left and right.
2011 is a recession year for Harsco. They mothballed all of the facilities and shut down the fires. A skeleton security staff keeps the vandals away. Sprinkle some ground foam around the tracks as a few weeds start to sprout. Easy to do.
Daily a couple of PRR thru freights roll by the cold mill. That is your op session. The Pennsylvania PUC approved the passenger train discontinuance after a contentious hearing. [:-banghead]

LOL....I'm making up the miniature "Management Unfair" signs even as we speak....Lord knows how long this dispute will go on...
How bad is this "maintenance" issue become? As evidence, I submit the following picture of the main line at Maclay Street:

Wow! Spiders like hopper cars? I didn't know that. I have the same problem in my basement Rick. I have to get out the chemicals to keep them and other critters at bay. The crickets especially like my hospitality. Still can't figure out where they get in.

I hate those little spiders, they call them dust spiders here. If you don't get them every day they will cover everything in webs.

Well Rick since you brought it up, it's a shame the picture doesn't show the number of "kills" that are hanging up to the right on the wall. From what we saw I'd say he's been at it awhile. Like Mark & I were saying the other night, at least something is working on the layout.
Wait any longer and you're gonna have to call RJ Corman out to clean it up. LOL

I get those #$^&*$ crickets too, Bill...the big, fat ones that scare the bejezzus out of me when they jump three feet into the air. This time of year they manage to somehow infiltrate the basement, find a hiding place, and chirp incessantly.....
No phone calls needed, Matt...I told Mark the clean up begins this weekend...I'm going to enjoy evicting the dust spiders with my shop vac. |
