Hmmmm....pig iron shipments to HARSCO in Harrisburg? Not a bad idea! I have an extra staging yard track....I think they would have shipped it in gons or open hoppers, right...wait, what am I saying! <slap>

"We" have plans for that extra staging track? Is there a mouse in your pocket or is that the menacing snap of a tape measure I hear in the distance?

Just to show you how incredibly ignorant I am of electronic matters, Mark and Steam were discussing a problem the layout was experiencing during the last work session (something appropriately mysterious and cryptic called "voltage drop") but still don't know it was fixed or not....I guess I should ask, huh?

[:-devil]No worries, guys. Traffic in cold pigs died out long before the first diseasal made an appearance on Harrisburg Terminal tracks. But back here in the 1930s, we're still shipping gon loads of pigs to HARSCO via "J" interlocking through Enola.

All of the railroads retired their steam engines in the 1950's, even the coal roads like N&W. Must have been a good compelling reason for that.

Oh yeah, they are maintenance [:-censored] headaches.

Well, another couple of months have gone by, which means that the usual gang of gypsies, tramps and thieves showed up to bust chops, consume goodies, and once again put the Seven Miles of Sheer Hell Route through its paces. Pardon the picture quality; the only instrument available was my iPhone...

Having served his time in HTRR hell (dispatch) for the past three sessions, Steam elected to take over the Division Street chores:

Here's the picture I promised I wouldn't post...our intrepid dispatcher Mark wiping off the remaining vestiges of cake:

Matt K held down the Herr Street job and did a remarkable job considering the circumstances...I only heard him mutter under his breath once, a new HTRR record:

Diamond Bill exchanging coal for coke; after this, he'll run his train directly to Harsco to deliver the product:

Steam (left) switching the North Harrisburg Industrial area and Bob P (right) setting up Maclay Street for the next BOF tap:

Iron and steel making always produces copious amounts of slag, which has to be collected and dumped...here a Slag Move has collected Maclay Street's slags and once cleared by the dispatcher, will proceed westbound to dump the nasty stuff at Susquehanna Aggregate in Lucknow:

Action at HE (Herr St East):

Multiple movements at Lucknow/Commonwealth: one up, one down and returning:

The "currently under construction" W.O. Hickok Boiler Works in the foreground; the Capital Street Turn has finished up it's work and is preparing to return to Division Street Yard:

Westbound TT passing westbound EF-21 (scrap train)at North Harrisburg:

Joe H re-entering Herr Street after delivering molten iron to Mock and Hartman at North Harrisburg; Joe currently holds the record for longest hot run ever: I gave him two hot drops in two different directions AND the slag run to Lucknow. He was getting hungry by the time he tied his train up..

Anytime the dispatcher is out in the main room usually indicates that something has gone wrong: Matt (left), Mark (center) and Joe H confer on what needs to happen:

One last shot and a tip of the engineer's cap to Andy for his recent post about using masking tape to clean loco wheels. Being one of those "if a little's good, then a lots better" type, I tried his idea and liked the results a lot, so much so that I then stretched out six feet of tape and used this long section to clean freight car wheels...worked very well! Thanks, Andy..it's a keeper!

Another great session Rick! As the dispatcher this time, and with the dispatchers desk within reach of the snack table, I had the opportunity to gobble down lot's of the goodies!!! Mrs. Harsco always lays out a great spread.

Thankfully she didn't make her thermonuclear garlic dip, otherwise I would have needed to issue gas masks.

I should explain the six-foot-long-strip of masking tape variation: I only cleaned one car at a time; the longer piece just gives more area for the wheels to roll through the alcohol as well as dry off. As Andy pointed out, the tape's accumulated grunge is easily wiped off between cars.
